Not many Gators have gotten NBA championship rings, but Schuyler Rimmer got one tonight for being part of the Bucks’ coaching staff.

Cool! I didn't know that he'd pursued coaching.

Maybe if CMW signs 6 guards for next year, the fan base will have had enough. Bring in Rimmer and let him go get some bigs, Europe, China, Africa, whatever, maybe even the upper mid-west, because our Coach doesn’t understand why you need at least five decent bigs for depth. He would like to only play the dreaded, wait for it, “Small Ball!”. He can be co-head coach and bring in ideas about offensive sets. Nothing but a better coaching staff.

Quality depth in the front court is very difficult, especially with the advent of the portal. Big guys who can play... well, they are a bit of a rarity. So this idea of socking away a few on your bench... it sounds wonderful, but it isn’t realty. Players leave for playing opportunity. We were the beneficiary of this when CC bolted from Michigan. And ironically, his success pushed Omar out.
Kids want to play. And attracting “decent bigs” for depth is way easier said than done.
We have a preseason All-SEC center who will gobble up 30+ minutes per game. Not many SEC-caliber centers want to fight for the remaining 10 minutes.

    that would suck.

but sec-caliber bigs generally don’t want to be a contingency plan.

Fwiw - Rimmer is involved with video coordination and player development at Milwaukee. He is not an assistant coach.

Poor kid. That was one of the more embarrassing things I've seen. Probably not who we want coaching bags around bere.

He was a non-scholarship walk on transfer from Stanford (I knew him slightly away from basketball). I don’t think he’s what some posters here mean by “SEC quality big.” No speed, no stamina, no SEC level athleticism, just good size and court intelligence

Good kid, intelligent, could go on the road to other countries and find us some gems. Think 6’9” and above, since our guys are limited in their travel and it’s too hard as you say to get good bigs to come to Florida, so let someone who knows and play a little college ball and give us some new blood.

I didn’t say “it’s too hard to get good bigs to come to Florida”. We arguably have the best center in the conference this season.

He was called an assistant coach last night during the awards presentation and was given a ring.

I think this is the ring presentation. At about the 4:20 mark, they present rings to the assistant coaching staff. Rimmer is the first one called.

Did you notice - in the video he was listed as “Assistant Video Coordinator”?
The Assistant Coaches... Dunlap, Oppenheimer, Baker, Forcier, St. Andrews Lee and Ham were listed as "Assistant Coach".
