You keep making up dates to make your numbers work. Some will buy it. Most rational people will see right thru it.

FL shut down nursing homes early March of 2020. FL also for some crazy reason decided to not let Covid+ patients back into nursing homes. I know, crazy decision. Now, you keep thinking NY did everything well. I'll live in the real world.

New York did not do everything well. Nobody is making that claim. But what New York faced was being the first state hit hard with the pandemic. At the time, we still didn't know a lot about COVID, such as the propensity to be transferred over surfaces. For the flu, that's high, and people took precautions with COVID, by spraying down surfaces, packages, etc. Turns out, not necessary, because only a small amount of COVID transmissions is through third-party surfaces.

And while you can claim people saw what was going on in China and Italy and should have taken COVID more seriously from the start, that's simply not human nature. Too many people need to experience touching a hot stove to believe it's hot, and simply will never take the word on another person. You can go back to the first pages of the thread if you don't understand or believe it.

So i'll ask again, why did DeSantis close down nursing homes in FL in early March 2020? Just paranoid? Nope. He saw the data in Italy. Sucks that NY didn't take Covid seriously. But FL did what it could do to protect the most vulnerable.

Florida restricted nursing home visitation early in the pandemic for those nursing homes that hadn't already put restrictions in place. I know because I couldn't visit my father back in late February of 2020 because his nursing home had shut down as had most others. The state made it mandatory about a week later for those few who hadn't already done so.

What NY did about a month later was something that made zero sense and MANDATED that positive Covid patients be sent back to nursing homes where the most vulnerable lived. There's a reason the percentage of elderly who died in NY is higher than Florida despite the fact that Florida has a higher percentage elderly population. The Cuomo administration's decision is that reason.

As I've mentioned here before, that decision by Cuomo and the 5 other Democratic governors was considered insanity by the actual people who were face to face with the disease. Instead, much to my and other's disbelief, he was lauded by the left and the sycophant media as some kind of hero. o_O

The state of Florida shut down nursing home visitation on March 11. New York shut down visitation to nursing homes on March 12.

New York was attempting to deal with the issues of hospital overcrowding a month later. The strategy that they used, which was to send back patients that were not seriously ill but were still positive, was obviously problematic, as the patients couldn't be properly isolated, which is what New York was claiming could happen. It almost certainly did lead to deaths.

We shouldn't conflate the two issues, however.

Those dates are correct. My mom's place did shut down March 9th, but the official date was march 11th in FL. They are separate issues, however, NY never used the Javit's Center or the USNS Comfort to even 25% capacity. It was handled very poorly but for sure they were hit hard and didn't know when it would stop. My biggest thing was sending of the Covid+ patients back to nursing homes. That was a poor move for sure. Can't fault them so much for anything else during that initial first wave.

Again, you go with semantics as you are wont to do. It doesn't matter when the nursing homes were shut down to visitation if you're loading them up with thousands of infected patients. And "obviously problematic" is a laughable understatement.

There were thousands of available beds on the hospital ship and at the Javits center that remained unused throughout the entire pandemic. And more could have been made available.

but they allowed, and continue to allow, unvaccinated workers to carry the virus into the homes with limited testing. Infected workers were documented to be the source of the majority of the infections in the nursing homes in NY and we learned nothing from it.

Yes, and i'm saying they are full of crap. The CDC gets their data from NEDSS. Go research it. Like the author of the article should've also done.

Of course the initial cases started from the outside. People in nursing homes are pretty isolated. But that doesn't in any way diminish the amount of damage incurred by sending thousands of Covid infected patients back to facilities that were whoa-fully unprepared to properly take care of them.

Florida closed nursing homes for visitors on March 14 and NY closed nursing homes for visitors on March 13.

Edit: I see others have posted March 11 for Florida. Either way, both states did it about the same time.

Seems to me the argument being made is since Cuomo/NY screwed up spectacularly about 18 months ago all of Desantis' and FL subsequent idiocy over the past 18 months is therefore OK.
