Honestly, with this bunch of recruiters, we basically get ham and eggers on the OL that seem to take 3 to 4 years to develop. That will not get us very far.

Hope Matthew McCoy gets his fourth star and signs with Florida. Florida may have whiffed on its top targets but he would give Florida another tall, athletic, mean tackle type in the incoming class. He looks like another rising prospect type to me following his position change.

"Matthew McCoy out of St. Augustine (Fla.) was plugging along at tight end and defensive tackle during his junior season....This summer I switched to offensive tackle," McCoy said. "Then we got to team camp, I continued playing tackle. It seemed pretty easy. I grew up some too. I'm up to 6-foot-6, 285-pounds. Once I got my tape out, that's when things got crazy." McCoy put up his film on hudl in Mid-September. The offers started rolling in immediately. Maryland started the offer barrage on September 20th. Louisville on September 25th, Ole Miss on September 27th. Mississippi State, TCU and Minnesota offered the next day. Miami, Pittsburgh and Florida state came in shortly after.
"The colleges love how I can bend and how athletic I'm for an offensive lineman. I'm a basketball guy too. They like that too."

One of Florida's hottest prospects Matthew McCoy sets up an official with Ole Miss

Think he is interior guy and we need tackles.....but who knows for sure. Also seem to recall this staff pushed him out when they were hired

That may be one of very few mistakes in culling McElwains mistakes. There were many very poor takes that decommitted that year and have done nothing in FBS.

I don’t think this narrative is true. Linemen take time to develop, period. What Hev like are guys with good frames and athleticism that he and Savage can mold. Ethan White and Braun both played in their second years if I recall correctly.

Braun played some year 1 (last year). This is his second year.

Agreed with it takes time to develop. Very few are ready to play as freshmen in the SEC at OL, or if they do, they are a detriment.

White even played his freshman year despite being very lowly rated.

Have to include Leonard in there as playing his second year.

Eguakun started in his third year after a covid season that saw little development of our players.

Overall I think we are doing decently at getting the young guys in. Last year was not a year to try that with covid restrictions and why getting some veterans back was big.

A year ago, there were legitimate concerns that Hevesy was capable of putting together good offensive lines. Today, the challenge is to consistently sustain what our line is doing this year, next and beyond. That's progress.

Not all linemen take years to develop. Delance and reese have been developed for years. And those are the 2 that are keeping Braun on the bench.

Crazy. For one year he forgets how to coach. Imagine that. He builds OL out of lowly ranked players for MSU that push Bama DT around, and he is doing the same at UF. Must have been brain fog from Covid.

I suppose you can find guys that have the mentality to push through and become what White did, but Braun was just flat out underrated. He had the body to play from day 1. He just dropped in Hev's lap. Thank you, Arkansas, for taking a risk on a position coach.
