The announcers were talking about the Gators short roster and injuries. Do any of you know anything about our situation?
Thayer Hall has been out/limited; Lauren Forte has had an ankle injury and was on a jump count for awhile. I think Merritt Beason got in due to the injuries of others and seems to be making the most of it. A new favorite of mine and as a true freshman, she'll be around for a long time (hopefully). Got behind early in the second and wasn't competitive after that. Hope the third set goes better.
Losing to missy st and lsu is rather shocking, especially given preseason expectations. Maybe just the injuries, but doesn't look good.
She has said during her Monday Zoom calls -- and they mentioned it during the broadcast tonight -- that the complete starting lineup has had like two practices together, due to injuries, since the very beginning of the year. Just because there have been a couple of disappointing matches doesn't mean that she's lost the locker room (...cough..cough...Urban Meyer) or that she is making poor decisions that are resulting in the losses. I don't think there is any evidence that she's not getting all that the team has to give right now and that someone else would do a better job.
I get that this isn’t a normal year, and Mary has earned years to sort it out if needed, I am a huge supporter. But it goes deeper than injuries. Four of our five conference losses that last two years have been in the second games of doubleheaders, four against inferior teams, so teams with inferior talent are making better adjustments than she has. Recruiting has been good but not as great as it once was. She has a really unathletic back line that can’t be solved overnight. And she has almost all upperclassmen on this team who will be gone this year or next (the additional year rule might save her a bit but Forte, Hall, Dooley etc, the core of the team are seniors). I just really wonder whether she has the stamina after 30 plus years to do what needs to be done to get back to where she expects to be, or whether she goes out gracefully, after seeing what happened with Becky Burleigh. but again if she decides she wants to, I will root for her all day every day, she has earned that right and is certainly capable of it. It’s just a lot to ask.
Tough year. Early on thought this team could be special but they have not meshed. Mary gets time but we also have to ask if the league is passing her (especially UK). Deeply want her to have a chance to win a natty and still am pissed about the missed call versus texas. Love Wise and what she has done and want her to walk away with her head high. Just wish her the best.....
way early to decide on the team they are getting back some players who were rehabbing the team is just now practicing at near100 percent.
