8 men's basketball Final Four dark horses for the 2022 NCAA tournament, according to Andy Katz I’m not sure how much of his opinion relies upon Key’s return. Should that happen... which I certainly don’t think will .... I would put us as a top 10 team.
fwiw, the official Gator's website shows Keyontae on the roster, as a Senior. 2021-22 Men's Basketball Roster - Florida Gators
I thought it still wasn't clear either way. I thought only the family is supposed to provide an update. If UF doesn't clear him, I don't see another school clearing him either. Who knows maybe the family is in discussions with UF over this.
Wow, I don’t know what to think. We could be good, but this is going to take a leap of faith to be in the final four. A lot of talent that will have to be defensive wizards first before they can even shoot the ball. Are we going to learn to get people open, rebound and shoot with a high percentage. Will Mike White’s rotations work? I am excited the season is getting close and seeing all the new players. But final four, what about injuries, key will be on the sidelines again probably not playing, I don’t know if Katz knows Florida’s history with injured players. But if we can stay pretty much injury free, we could get close to the top ten. This is a big jump for Florida. Sweet sixteen probably, but there are no givens. I would love to be wrong and we find some go to players that are money in crunch time. A lot of ifs that have to be resolved. Let’s say Katz is optimistic and putting the pressure on the team and coach. Reality, if you believe in the tooth fairy! LOL.
Can't the university just sign some indemnification if he's medically cleared, or buy insurance? Seems if there's two opposing forces - Key wanting to get cleared to play and the school not wanting the liability if something happens to him again - a path would be Key signs a waiver or some other workaround. Or am i missing something...
I don't think you understand the meaning of "dark horse." That's not a prediction of making the Final Four. It's simply a forecast that the team, if eh
That sounds reasonable. It seems likely to me that if the family is responsible for releasing information & we haven't had that release, then they're in talks. I think UF is/would balk because of the bad optics if something went wrong. If he's not ever going to be cleared, it would be nice to leave him on the roster & have him ceremoniously "start" on Senior day.
Florida isn’t among his final four picks. He lists Florida as a dark horse.... meaning, a team that isn’t expected to get there, but could make a surprise run.
Appreciate the article AKA! Obviously the KJ situation is hugely impactful. I know if he "were" to play I would be far more inclined to agree with the article. With or without KJ I'm going to be excited to see this new addition of Gator Basketball.
I think we must base our expectations on the team we know is going to play. Even if KJ is cleared to play, which I consider unlikely, he cannot be in game shape and he will certainly have physiological issues to overcome. At the very best we could expect meaningful minutes from him in the second half of the season but even if declared completed eligible he will not pick up where he left of.
Veteran/experienced team, lot of depth and many players known for great defense or defensive intensity at other schools. Find some pure scorers in this group, develop a little team chemistry and this team could go far.
Ahhh, I see, the old "dark horse" trick. Pick four teams that you think will be in the final four and then 8 dark horse teams so, in the end, you're actually picking 12 teams for the final four. Genius.
