It's only slander if it's not true, and nearly all of the negative things said about Hev revolve around his inability to bring in the top prospects (the top ones on HIS OWN BOARD, for those of who who are going to cry about star rankings not mattering). He's clearly a solid line coach.
I think anyone who WANTS Hev to sign good prospects should neither denigrate said prospects nor bad-mouth Hev. (Not saying that you are doing either — general comment.) I am not blaming posters for any perceived recruiting failures, just noting that it is not in our interests to make it harder for him to recruit.
I'll say this, this is the first year I've seen the O line play like I had hoped they would when Hev was hired. Hev is a mean, nasty, old school OL coach and typically his lines played like that too. It's one the traits the lines under previous coaches like Summers lacked (with the exception of a few players, the lines looked soft). But that old school type of personality/mentality isn't going to resonate with every recruit and we're just going to have to accept that part of recruiting. I'll say that however raw some of Hevs recruits have looked, they all seemed to have a mean streak in their play. It obviously makes your job easier when you start out with players that have a higher floor, but if it turns out that we're now at the point where he's developing depth that consistently plays tough every year, then I'm cool with that.
Yeah, i just accept line recruiting for what it is and hope the dudes Hev gets pan out. The line this year is pretty damn good, so hopefully he has enough bodies in the pipeline to avoid a drop off. And just as a side note, the part of my comment in parentheses was included because i was 1000% sure ET was gonna give me some sort of negative reaction. You know, @ETGator1 , you don't HAVE to give a "come on man" or "disagree" to every post that doesn't fellate the staff.
To be fair to Hev, he has already been there with tough playing lines. His OL were pretty good at MSU, and his last year's line at MSU really pushed around Bama's DL and MSU should have beaten them that year. At the end of his first year back with us, his line was becoming really good. Then he lost a ton of guys and had to turn to the passing game under Trask. Then Covid really hampered developing young guys. I see those as an aberration. I don't think it is a hit or miss situation with Hev. He has typically had pretty good lines regardless of how lowly ranked his recruits have been. Unfortunately that may validate to him that he doesn't need to be as aggressive recruiting. The talent, not the development, has been a consistent concern where he has been with CDM.
Yea I said before the season that as long as Mullen is fine with the recruiting of Hev, then I am as well. This was a season that I felt he had to show his chops with what he's building on the OL and we're seeing the results of it. Hopefully they can keep it up
lol i led the charge last season and this past offseason of being super critical of Hev. I still stand by the notion that he’d do wonders with guys that didn’t need as much time to mold but with how over the place these kids are in HS due to lack of coaching they receive in HS, you never know who’ll develop or how fast or slow they will develop.
If we're lucky and no one leaves early we should have another very good starting line next year: Gouraige White Eguakun Braun Tarquin And if these three continue to develop, would add good depth: Harrod Leonard Mincey. I would feel real good about this line. I haven't heard anybody mention this but Delance is a red shirt senior. So technically he could return because of covid correct?
no he already returned this year. He was class of 2016, sat out 2017 to transfer, and been here 4 years
Bobby, love ya man but IMO you are UNDERSTATING the case. Get real, UF is on a HISTORIC pace for rushing the rock......HISTORIC MAN!! If Hev can get this type of production from a 4th string alcoholic Drug addict that only plays flag football for his Jr College team ........... well whats to complain about??
Hey, don’t forget to leave me out! I criticize Hev’s recruiting with the best of them! Lol I am super excited about the run game this year but it will also take me more than 4 games to just wipe away my long term concerns on o line recruiting.
Spike, you need a drink...........get a 22 oz draft beer, drop shot of Crown inside. Knock it down in one gulp.................then lets revisit this post...........
Our 2 definitely leaving are Stewart Reese and Jean Delance. We have 3 more who could go if the NFL says they want them. I hope all 3 come back, but if they do, we are already taking more OL in 22 than we can use presuming we get the others we lead for. It's not a bad problem to have, but a problem nonetheless.
stabnburn, one more Come On Man for good measure. Seriously, Lighten Up Man is probably more appropriate, but they don't give me that as a selection.
Bobby ain't gettin off that easy, rumor has it Hev has Ethan lined up to go 3 rounds with the bobster after practice.............
