Kelly Rae Finley, our interim head coach, completed her graduate studies at Harvard. Seems like a smart lady. There is NO reason, NONE, on why UF women's basketball cannot be a top 20 program.
I think the discrimination part was a bit of a reach. Having said that, this Bob Knight style of coaching won’t fly with today’s generation. I’m really surprised that SS looked the other way on this, especially since his on-court record sucked.
WJXT Ex-players detail abuse by former Gators women’s hoops coach Newbauer ESPN's take Ex-UF women's hoops coach accused of abuse
Well, correct, Steve Spurrier did save our football program. But I'm not sure of its relevance in this matter.
My take: It has been dealt with. I agree that the optics here don't look great regarding Scott Stricklin's actions, timing and statements. This is not a threat to Scott Stricklin's job as AD at UF. T.G.
Galen Hall did a nice job at UF as well. Unfortunately things that were okay at Oklahoma were not going to be allowed at UF. Different rules at football elite
Pat Summit would have lasted one week in the modern era. lady was brutal. That being said, it's a terrible story, fortunately our women's basketball program is complete and utter trash or this would be a bigger story. (i'm not saying because we suck, it's acceptable, just saying 99.9% of america don't and won't click on a story about Florida Womens basketball program )
Has the extension been explained and I missed it? Do I just imagine there's an elephant in the living room?
As I predicted no one is really talking about this anymore. The only people who want SS fired are the same anonymous ones on Twitter who are already screaming for him to be fired long before this. Time to move on.
IMO ADSS is in no jeopardy whatsoever, he hired a former WNBA to be here for at least this season as soon as Cam was out the door, I hope there is nothing to corroborate Kelly Rae as an enabler There were plenty of transfers not including the 3 that left or were invited to leave when Cam arrived, I saw that as par for the course given the new coach hire I talked with numerous parents at practice and the games, there were mixed feelings but all that was said focused on playing time which is not unexpected in my book
I hope ADSS doesn't just try to sweep this under the rug with CN's exit. This is a real opportunity for UF to take leadership on how student athletes and particularly women, are listened to and heard, and make recommendations so that no abusive coach is ever enabled at UF again. I can only think of the gymnastics tragedy and so many victims over years because no one wanted to challenge USA gymnastics. In the long run, a serious review will strengthen the athletic programs.
The level of attention this gets in the press should not be the driver of how much attention this gets from the administration and the Gator community. Cam is gone, but there are still plenty of things that need to be answered.
Bit early to tell. It was front page news. Now it has gotten out nationally who knows what vultures may be circulating.
yeah maybe it does die, but the next steps worst case: the follow up stories with the parents and kids being interviewed more thoroughly. The FOIA requests that could dig up more, or something totally unrelated. Reporters sniffing around the university looking for blood in the water. Other schools using it against UF in this and other sports on how we treat female athletes. again none of that may come to pass, but none of it I would be shocking. And then I would bet this being used by those who already don’t like SS as a bludgeoning tool to weaken him. Even if this doesn’t cause his firing (and right now I don’t think it will) it can weaken his position substantially.
Well, I played sports growing up and with the exception of racist remarks this seems normal. I turned out just fine. Amazing to me that this qualifies as abuse, when did kids become so sensitive?
Throwing a ball at a player seated because she has a torn ACL and hitting her in the leg sure seems like abuse to me. I played baseball until middle school and tennis through high school. Never had a coach throw or hit a ball in my direction because they were upset with me. Yelled at me, sure. But that's it.
I struggle with the notion that in this day and age, our AD found real evidence of abuse in one of our programs and decided not to do anything about it. I’m certain there was a lot going on behind the scenes that lead to the ‘resignation’. Unfortunately, there’s probably not much the administration can say given privacy and contractual agreements.
