A New Nurse Struggles to Save Patients in a New COVID Surge A New Nurse Struggles to Save Patients in a New COVID Surge Cases peaked, then fell, then rose again. “It is so much worse this time”
New study came and says the difference between Moderna and Pfizer has widened considerably. After 120 days, the Pfizer is now just 77% effective in keeping people out of the hospital where Moderna retains a 91% efficacy. We knew that was going to happen because Israel has been telling us for months. It looks like for Pfizer, we all may need that booster shot after all.
As I've said elsewhere the 77% seems low compared to other information. Looking at the study, the 77% applies to those vaccinated 120 days or greater as of August 15. 120 days back is April 15. Which means you second dose would have been completed April 1st. The vaccinations were heavily weighted to older people early on. By March 31st, less than 50 million were fully vaccinated, compared to close to 200 million now. It stands to reason that those over 120 days in the study were older than average, at least I would think. And it has been previously shown that for the oldest that the vaccine is not quite as effective. Comparative Effectiveness of Moderna...
Excellent Meta Analysis (is there really such a thing?) showing how all of these know-nothing doctors who do not understand when to use steroids, when not to use them are hurting their patients and not helping them. This confirms everything that I have been hearing and one of the things that gets me so fired up with the "listen to your doctor crowd". Too many doctors are unwilling to believe that they need to continue to be educated, and as a result, are doing much, much more harm than good. Summary: Steroids given to patients in the first week of infection, when oxygen saturation is NOT depressed (less than 94) result in 5.97 times higher instances of similar patients NOT given steroids when not having low oxygen saturation. DUH!! Steroids suppress the immune system......why do doctors insist on giving them to patients who do not need them? Steroids given to patients in the first week of infection, when oxygen saturation is NOT depressed (less than 94) result in 35% increase in the odds of the patient dying over similar group not given steroids when not needed. Mean duration of fever and time to viral clearance also much longer when given steroids what NOT required. Seriously, Americans really need to educate themselves and call out these doctors when they do not know what they are talking about (hint: more often then you think) Steroids use in non-oxygen requiring COVID-19 patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis
HHS changing distribution mechanism for monoclonal antibodies. Last week over 150,000 doses were given to US patients and over 1/3, or 50,000 doses were given in Florida and Texas. These doses costs $1000, meaning the US taxpayer paid $150M in mAb treatments just last week. HHS is modifying the system because after many weeks of these treatments sitting on shelves, now there is worry that there may be a shortage. HHS will only provide dose those authorized providers and are properly sharing data back to HHS. There is no longer a question that those people who are using this rather than vaccination without valid medical reasons should be paying "full freight" for this treatment. Note: There are at least 3 companies who have completed or are nearing completion for oral mAbs and are expecting to file for EUA with the FDA by late November or early December. This will be a huge step towards early treatment once pharmacies and doctor's offices have these at their disposal (hopefully by next summer) assuming the doctors will have any clue how and WHEN to use the treatments effectively. https://www.phe.gov/emergency/event...nivimab-etesevimab/Pages/Update-13Sept21.aspx
Over 50% of those using these treatments in South Florida according to DeSantis were vaccinated. I assume they should also pay the “full freight”? Come on with the people who don’t go get a shot need to pay for it. If you are going to play this game you best be calling for those who smoke to pay the “full freight” of cancer treatment if they need it. The obese person needs to pay the “full freight” of by-pass surgery if they need it. Just stop with blaming people for being skeptical of taking a new drug. We would probably agree there are a lot of people that should take these drugs. But where we disagree is there can be reason to not take it. I am not saying this. But what are we gong it say if ADE actually happens? Are you going to call for all those who are vaccinated to pay the “full freight” because they now are dealing with more severe disease? Medicine is not that simple!
Full vax rates in Miami-Dade are 70%. And, Regeneron is not for "severe disease." The protocol is to give it early. Oh, and it is a new drug. Synthetic antibodies.
And? Are we going to charge “full boat” for the vaccinated because they are somehow special in seeking the treatment? The point of the treatment is to keep the patient out of the hospital. Vaccinated or Unvaccinated. Stop letting people divide you from others. Start being accepting of others concerns.
Stop saying things that contradicts yourself, you lose more and more credibility as time goes by, as do all of your anti-vaxx brethren. These idiots won't trust a safe vaccine because it is an "experimental drug" despite the vaccine having FULL AUTHORIZATION and a safety profile determined by BILLIONS of doses given. Yet, the same mindless fools who believe in politicians will go run to the "Desantis approved" mAb infusions of an "experimental drug" that DOES NOT have full authorization. So fine, no one pays, but since you and your anti-vaxx brothers and sisters are opposed to vaccines because they are "experimental", than 100% of the people receiving mAbs should be vaccinated and we should not offer mAbs to anyone unvaccinated because it is experimental?
What on earth are you talking about? Did you read the stories today about insurers starting to charge COVID patients co-pays, deductible and out of network? Where did I say anything about charging people anything? This thread is about treatment, vaccines etc. I pointed out in response to a statistic about 50% of the people in South Florida getting regeneron being vaccinated that South Florida has a 70% vaccination rate, the treatment is for non-severe infection and that the protocol is to give it early. Point being that we should see more vaxed with breakthroughs getting it because they are less likely to have severe infection. And that those who take it are taking a new drug without a lot of history behind it; same argument Mande against the vaccines. That is not to say that insurers could not use vaccine status to assess risk, just like Medicare does with smokers. Or that government can’t. That is not “dividing people.” It happens every day in the actuarial and underwriting world. I don’t Favor it for infectious disease because that discourages treatment and encourages spread.
Just saw this video of a woman on MSNBC getting emotional calling for people to take the vaccine. "We have a way to end this pandemic," she said. Presumably, this implies that a certain level of vaccinations would end the pandemic. I've asked this many times, but not once have received an answer. What percentage of the population needs to be vaccinated for you all to consider the pandemic over? If you "defer to the experts," then I ask the experts the same question.
What is "really high?" Do some parts of the population matter more than others as far as vaccines go? What if, say, 80% of seniors are vaccinated?
Why don’t you post your opinion in the thread in which it belongs in instead of this thread, which is meant for information on treatments, vaccines and cures? It can be more appropriately addressed there?
It will never end...we need 80% vaxxed and it will all be over, by that time it will be, we need 80% boostered and it will all be over, by that time it will be, we need 80% double boostered and it will all be over...and if you don't keep up, well may God have mercy on your soul.

This thread is for communication and info on vaccinations and treatments. Suggest you take this debate to the other thread. Edit: I deleted a few of my off topic posts. Suggest others do the same. I sometimes get mixed up which thread I'm in.
The regeneron clinic in downtown Jax has gone from 300 a day two weeks ago to 200 a day last week. I don't think we will hit 75 today at the current pace. Just a bit of random info.
