Kinda goes both ways I think. Their running backs ran pretty decent against our defense. And the defense brought a lot of pressure in the passing game.

That's fair.....I thought Ford is a very nice back. Lightning quick. I do think UF front seven lost gap control/discipline at times trying to make a big play......pretty typical of a game 1.

yes they are part of the game, but also shows the failure in defending the running game.

Yep. On a handful of plays Cox reverted back to not setting the edge similar to early last year but coaching staff will get that corrected (again)
D will be improved over last year

I actually agree with your point here. Sacks should be taken from team passing yards like in the NFL. A designed run is very different than a drop-back pass.

you talking like they ran for 150 yards on us and they didn’t. DL is the LAST thing this past weekend that anyone should gripe about is my point

I disagree, the point you seems to ignore that it was against FAU one of the worst offenses in college football in 2020 and that Newkirk, Valentino and Dexter got push around.

I don't agree with your general premise that Newkirk, Valentino and Dexter got pushed around. Dexter has a lot to learn, but the starting DT, did not get pushed around. I imagine your premise is that you expect that our DT should be beyond the line of scrimmage every down, and that is not the DT assignment in Grantham's D. If you go back and watch the game, you will not see an instance of the FAU OL establishing a new line of scrimmage against our starting DT, which unfortunately was the case last year. To the contrary our DL, in particular the starting DE were living in their backfield. I think you saw a different game or had some unreal expectations.

Yes, they often had 6 on the LOS. The DL can only keep the LB, S and Star so clean. At some point they have to make a play, but let's not pretend that FAU gashed our starters with a ton of yards. We substituted very liberally in this game and did not blitz as would be expected against an SEC offense.

Are you aware that we only had one 3 and out on defense all game against one of the worst offenses around.

It's a long year. A lot can happen if they are handed some bad losses. And we have no idea how good ND is.

In a first game against a motivated instate team throwing everything they had at us, with a shifty back, good receivers, and many transfers from P5 schools who we recruited.

You don't know diddly squat. It was a first game, against an opponent we knew wasn't going anywhere, and the coaches played A LOT of guys, and we still won easily. We were hardly throwing out our best game plan against FAU. Jeez. Some people just can't see the forest for the trees.

The thing that always baffles me about guys like you is the "why". Why do you come onto this board, pretend to be a fan, and whine and complain about everything? It's insufferably negative. And you must be incredibly miserable, deservedly so.
