You're still not getting it, q. Even if it were true that herd immunity wouldn't have been reached, it is untrue that vaccinations have failed. They aren't containing the spread as well as hoped and it is no doubt due to the delta strain and due to some waning. But what they are doing is ntl still limiting community spread and still doing extremely well in keeping people out of the hospital and out of the morgue.

masks cause spread & the vaccine may have slowed down the vaccine....topped off with a goofy notion of fail.

Yeah, his logic is questionable at best. If he’s recovered and planning on future concerts, the results couldn’t have been THAT “disastrous”. If he wants to push a message of people with medical conditions need to proceed with caution, sure. That’s already the message. Turning completely anti-vax for everyone is a bit of a dramatic leap.

My experience wasn’t great either. I had Covid in December, got my first shot either late Feb or early March. I was just outside the recommended 90 day wait. First shot kicked my ass, I honestly thought I was having a heart attack. Second shot I took some precautions and took the day off from work after a late afternoon shot. Both shots I felt fine within 24 hours. The “heart attack” was scary, but not real and no longer an issue 24 hours later. I’ve warned people, but never tried to talk anyone out of it.

Also, if he was initially advised to wait 12 weeks for shot 2, and waited 6, maybe that’s on him, not the shot.

Dude is such a POS. Just google “Eric Clapton racist diatribe.”

He has a history of terrible takes and awful views. I’m not surprised by this.

    Anti-vaxxer and anti-masker fatigue.

If people want to continue being irresponsible and selfish in the face of a continued threat, how much empathy are we supposed to have?

And that may in the end be what we needed in this unknown. But it may not as well. Too many people have absolute positions with this. I don't know what the right answers are. No one does. But we do have many who think they know without any doubts.

This is way more complicated than people realize. We all agree there are consequences for reactions. And there is no way to know for sure what the absolute best route is. Right now based on what I have seen...I think we would have been better off pushing these new drugs hard for the elderly and immune compromised (overweight/obese/diabetes/etc) and kept the healthy people in trials so we could focus on the next generation of building a new vaccine technology. Instead we went with the masses. It is what it is.

As an engineer. I feel like we are watching the 737 max debacle potentially. I hope I am wrong. It really feels like we rushed a product to market with the players behind the scenes paving the way. And we just lifted off which is what is scary. We need to find an answer for how to deal with this monster going forward. And instead of working through the process we have people who pushed a product to market that still needs to be in the testing phase. No doubt I think we should be running test flights with the elderly and immune compromised. Yet we sent to full market with a plane that had been around for decades but had bigger changes in design than people realized to compete with airbus and that rush/influence may have real consequences (MCAS for Boeing). I know a quick analogy. But I could really build on it the way things are playing out. And maybe we all have well trained pilots who will save the aircraft and rolling out to the masses was the way to go. I just think we have pushed things too fast considering many are at little to no risk from this disease in the grand scheme.

Well, we could simply give the amount we would hope to get if we made a mistake.

I think you are using an awfully liberal, slack-cutting definition of mistake.

Being misled into ignorance or fear happens all the time. The vaccines are no different.

I refuse to celebrate or show indifference about any death.
They are humans just like us, with different opinions just like us, sometimes buying into bad info just like us.

There is just no good in finding joy in any of this. Its all one huge tragedy that we all got dragged into.

At this point you are just propogating disinformation. I'm not sure why you and others are so vested in diminishing the need for vaccinations. You may be a really nice and great guy otherwise but at this point the deaths of tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of people are on you and those like you collectively.

I've lost patience with your ilk.

These people put my health and my family's health in danger. I have 85+ year old parents. Fully vaxed and reasonably healthy but even so there is a non trivial danger at that age. I'm always having to go through hypothetical trade offs about visiting them. So those vocal anti vaxxers greatly exascerbate that situation.

So you think I should feel sorry for these people? No, I don't. I struggle just to stay indifferent. I do feel sorry for their families and the other carnage they leave behind.

I don’t know Tilly. If someone is ignorant and they are just hurting themselves, fine. If someone wants to actively spread ignorance and potentially harm or kill others, it’s a different story. I am not celebrating his death by any means but he done spreading lies. Hell, maybe his death will bring around someone he duped.

Yeah tilly is normally very level headed, probably more than I, but I refuse to consider the people as victims. Their actions are causing indirectly and sometimes directly, a great deal of damage. Just because they were otherwise seemingly normal middle class people (and too often Christian) does not forgive their actions. They have collectively done more damage than most criminals. Yes, people have freedom of speech, but they can and should be held accountable for it. Speech can have consequences.

So while I don't celebrate their deaths, apart from their loved ones, the world is a better place without them, and hopefully their death will serve as an example to those who are on the fence.

And to be clear, I'm only talking about ones who are doing widespread dissemination of this harmful information. I'm not talking about the nice aunt or uncle who posts stupid shit on Facebook (or here)

It’s not about “finding joy”, it’s the reality that every day a guy like this lives and spouts bs, he’s potentially putting others at risk. You are so worried about his kids, but *he* put them at risk too through his actions! Guy might as well have been teaching his kids to play with matches.

Again, no way to know precisely how many lives guys like this contributed to cutting short. Not just direct deaths through spreading the virus, but if we are talking radio hosts and “organizers” of anti-mask and anti-vaxx propaganda, it’s most certainly>0. Could be quite substantial for those who had larger followings or are top media personalities. The fact that they are now dead may have the opposite effect, and perhaps indirectly save a few lives. You may not like it, but that’s how this works.
