Just remembered a funny (to me) music related story that happened when I was playing ball at Chipola— Our coach (Ellis Dungan) agreed to let us play some music during pre-game BP. Back then that was a big thing. So we’re talking about stereo players and vinyl—Naturally the Steppenwolf album that had “Magic Carpet Ride” was on the stack of albums—so was the song “The Pusher”……. You can imagine our HC’s reaction when that song played….
I think I may have mentioned I took some photos at the Roger McGuinn concert on campus in the mid-70's. I have more pics but here are 3 that I scanned from my 35mm slides..... He had a clear body guitar that had colored lights inside that lit up in sequence when he played "Eight Miles High"......that was way cool......
I was just telling a friend last night about Vision Quest, because his daughter is now involved in the school wrestling team. Another related story...... Earlier this year I got my left wrist x-rayed up in Port Orange because of some soreness from an injury last year. On the way out I happened to get into a conversation with a younger guy high school age who turned out to be the son of a local surfer I know from Deland. He was wearing a Barracuda tee shirt (NSB high school Barracudas) and turned out he was on the wresting team - and of course - I brought up "Vision Quest". It was pretty epic....he knew all the characters and all the scenes and was going on and on about it being the best movie ever made! Man that was great..... That part at the end when his older friend & mentor from the hotel told him about watching that soccer game with Pele.....and he broke down and cried......that was powerful and stays with me almost every day. There's these events in history we keep inside ourselves. Events built around courage, honor, and persistence. Lunatic Fringe. Yep. Epic stuff there!
I broke out a couple Creative Zen MP3 players. Those small ones they don't make any more - 1GB with a clip on the back for jogging, etc. These are the Zen Nano Plus models. I've had them for many years. Take a AAA battery. I use Sony headphones that have an ear clip - won't come off and very comfortable. I was sitting here watching the game and listening to them each. They're loaded with music from years ago but all hand picked personal favs. Here's a cool one that came on, for example.....
