I don’t disagree for those who need it at all.

But we do need to understand that some are not in the same position as others. And they are not ready for a new technology that is not approved and already asking for boosters.

That is the real of this. We can argue the rollout. We can argue all sorts of stuff. I just think it is time to understand we were never getting herd immunity whether every single person lined up or not. And that we are in for a long battle with this thing. There is not a right or wrong answer in many circumstances. Time to stop shaming and let’s work together to fight this.

South Florida’s overburdened hospitals neared full capacity this past week as COVID-19 tore through the state, but figures the Florida Department of Health released Friday indicate the current wave of the virus may have peaked in the tri-county area.

Raw case totals in two of South Florida’s three counties fell for the first time in months. Miami-Dade, which at 85% of residents 12 and older vaccinated boasts the highest inoculation rate in the state, saw its total decrease for the first time since mid-June.

Broward’s infection numbers also fell for first time since mid-June. With 76% of residents having gotten the shot, Broward is second only to Miami-Dade in that metric statewide, according to Florida records.

While its number of total cases grew marginally, Palm Beach reached a milestone this week by getting 70% of its residents 12 and older vaccinated. More good news: The county only had 98 more cases than it did the week prior, the smallest uptick since the most recent COVID-19 wave began two-plus months ago.

 

What what answers aren't right or wrong? Exactly how do you propose people "work together"?

 

If those counties have such a high vax rate a lot of the other ones must have really woeful ones.

 

Well we know how much " hair salon " Nancy really cares about masks. big fundraiser today,plenty of liberal/democrats there,all maskless, yet the poor servants had to do, sort of like the Obama party.

 

Bear in mind that we get a lot of tourists in these counties and the state as a whole. So, the percentage of vaccinated residents is not a complete picture of the area and potential for spread. But there has been a reduction in vaccine reluctance here recently.

I think your thinking is still flawed. Vaccinations aren't about "those who need it" per se, which I believe you mean to suggest those at higher risk for serious illness or death. It's about vaccinating much of the entire population as possible, regardless of individual risk so to severely curb the spread and thus illness and death as much as possible. If nearly everyone is vaxxed, we can do that.

 

With the relatively poor performance of the Chinese supplied vaccines around the world, the US has an opportunity to prop up its reputation in the world. Something that has not happened since the Obama administration. I very much agree with this proposal, and there is not one reason any politician should oppose this. However, we should probably be taking the money out of the outrageous "off book" spending done by the intelligence community as opposed to the actual budgeted dollars for the military, or maybe a 50/50 split.

Either way, vaccinating the entire world is a direct benefit to the United States and its citizens. If only we could get the US citizens to want to defend themselves.

Shifting 1% of the ridiculously bloated defense budget towards the far bigger national security threat seems like a no-brainer... yet somehow I bet there will be a lot of (R) opposition. Some because of crazed anti-vaccine takes. Some because of MAGA (no foreign aid). Some because their M.I.C. donors will scrap for every last dollar.

That being said, the Dems have the power and I wonder if that amount could be put to that purpose even without congress. The last admin certainly took that position on “repurposing” funds.

 

I posted last week about my employee who came down with Covid nearly 2 weeks ago. Last Tuesday he emailed me that it was still kicking his ass and he "wished he had taken the vaccine". Well, I heard from his wife yesterday. His blood oxygen dropped to 83%, and he was rushed to the ER on Saturday. With supplemental oxygen, he's at 96%, but struggles to talk or do anything. As of late yesterday, he's still sitting in the ER, waiting on a bed to open up. This is an otherwise healthy male in his late 40s.

 

What a bunch of garbage.
