I went to Washington 86 and watch Emmitt a few times too. A couple of my friends played for Escambia

Our back perform well on the field given the OL we have. They are all fundamentally sound and well coached when they hit the field.

the only complaint I have is Knox’s recruiting. If he can’t hang on to a guy committed to us this far in advance, that’s a problem. We’ll have to see how it plays out.

I graduated from Woodham in 71, but followed high school football quite a bit until my daughter was born in 88.

Back in the day, I could go to just about any high school game in Pensacola and claim that I went to one or both of the schools. Back then, high school was 3 years, 9th still in middle school. I went to these school:

    1968/69 - Pensacola High
    1969/70 - Pensacola Washington
    1970/71 - Pensacola Woodham

I grew up wanting to go to PHS. Went to Washington, then on Texar Drive, when integration was introduced to Escambia County schools. Went to Woodham when my family moved into the Woodham school district. At that point, I figured what the heck as I no longer had a single high school allegiance.

The best school? Woodham, by far. I had juniors with me in classes that were senior classes at PHS and Washington. It prepared me for college as it did for many others who attended Woodham. It's interesting that the then best academic school was downgraded to a middle school and then out of existence as a school. I still claim it.

Back to Emmitt. I heard about Emmitt as far back as his city league play although I didn't watch him until his high school days. My wife, 2 years behind me, graduated from Escambia. We used to go to a lot of Escambia games just so I could watch Emmitt play. Have to say, I have never seen a RB as good as Emmitt. He could and did do it all.

Regardless of who the coach is, UF will have to perform on the field to keep this kid. You can bet Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, and Ohio State will come a calling if Gibson shows out as advertised.

F* k em. This why we pay our coaches the big bucks. Hold on to em regardless of whoever comes calling

Yep. That 87 team was putrid. People complain now, maybe they should watch those late 80s teams with Lynn Amedee as the coordinator. Sheezz whiz! It's like listening to the bully scratching chalk on a blackboard.

A 1000 yard back has seemed to elude us more than not over the last couple decades. How many have we had in the last 25 years. I feel like with out even looking it up that I can count them on one hand, of course I could be off but I don't remember a bunch. Faison, F.Taylor, did Jordan Scarlett hit that or did he come just short? Crazy to think a team that became synonymous for offense hasn't had many 1000 yard rushers.

Game changed, platooning to keep fresh legs became the default coaching move, and UF decided offense wasn't necessary for nearly a decade.

Didn't Malik Davis have over 500 yards as a freshman before he got hurt?

This thread is exactly why people think Gator fans are insane. UF has a commit that is ranked #1 in the entire nation and the posts after it are 2/3rds negative. How? Not sure but this place finds a way. Why not celebrate instead of wallow? Go Gators!

Damn so I was right, 5 in the last 25 years. None the less we've put up points without a workhorse RB.

Patriots haven’t had many bell cows either. I don’t think it’s near as important as it use to be.

I disagree. I think 2/3rds of the posts actually have nothing to do with the original post/thread. Lol

    Thanks for this link.

One name I was scanning for was Percy on a rushing or receiving list. My bet is if each of the lists were lengthened to include a few more players his name would be listed in almost all of the rushing and receiving categories. He just split his time evenly between positions which keeps his name off some statistical rankings.

I saw two generations of Taylor on the single season list, when is Fred Taylor’s grandson ready for college?
