3* projects are fine with this. “Hevesy's general philosophy for offensive linemen is that they should expect to be on campus for four to five years, with them able to contribute as a starter for at least two to three seasons.” Cultivating confidence key for Hevesy in O-line development
In theory, i get what he’s trying to say but yea, you gotta still be able to get the younger guys up to speed quicker and let em get their feet wet and not lean on seniority. this quote here was unnecessary on his part as those schools have shown they’ll play you early and often "You go into at Alabama, at LSU, some of those places and they get shell-shocked, and all of a sudden it's going to take a little bit longer to bring your confidence back to playing when they get beaten, something stupid happens to them," Hevesy said.
Hevesy explains thinking behind Eguakun starting at center one more article explaining why DeLance will be at RG this year. <shrugs and shakes head> TBF DeLance grades out as a better run blocker than pass blocker and rumor is that he’s been injured to some extent the past two seasons. Braun seems too good not to be a starter, but Hev knows best, amiright?
Does anyone think that is his philosophy because he knows that he can't get the higher ranked recruits that should be able to start sooner? Whatever the reason, personality, laziness, etc..., he just is not a good recruiter.
White played after the UGA game in 2019 ONLY because Bleich was too hurt to play. Even then it was Stone, RG, Buchanan, Heggie, and #56.
My point is, if they are good enough to see the field, they will. That position as everyone agrees usually takes some development.
I think you are looking at a guy with a compromised ego. Something is wrong with his personality and all indications are that he's way over paid and that falls on.... And they were good enough to see the field. But that was at UF. I'm glad they are good, we need it. I wish we had recruited three or four more of that caliber.
Hev has four classes behind him (2018-2021). So you’d think he’d have a lot of his kids starting by now, but if not, Ok—next year. I am fine giving him benefit of the doubt until after this season. Then, no excuses.
i hope we don’t fall into a trap of having to wait every 3-4 years to have a top tier line because we have to wait for kids we bring in to “be up to sniff”. Kind of like how D’Antoni at MSU would have good teams every 3-4 years because he had to wait to those lower ranked kids to finally pan out. In the end, it bit em in the ass
I don't really understand the concept, because we are taking 4 every year and many stay for 5 years. If we have a 2/3 success rate on them contributing. We should have only a 1/2 turnover of starters every year with juniors and seniors starting who are well versed in the offense. The line should be fairly consistent from year to year unless the recruits are so poor that the success rate goes below that 2/3. If more than McDowell, Symonds, and Slaughter do not contribute, we may have problems. If Symonds and Slaughter come around to contributing and we don't have multiple medical hardships, we should be in good shape.
We have never had a covid season that allowed 5th years to come back for another season. Otherwise all would be Hev starters.
Hev’s recruiting has been a bit better here than at MSU but can you recall a time that he’s ever had an elite OL or one of the best OL’s in the SEC? His philosophy has yielded middle tier OL units. What i should have said is, and we all know this, if he was able to land some of the top end guys he/the staff first go after, im sure how he thinks would be different. It is what it is All in all time will tell and hell despite how he is perceived, we all DO want him to succeed.
If our line could be just as good as the msu lines, that would be great. I’m ready to see what will be his first line that’s on him.
agreed. Think next year line will be his best yet. Unless RG had an unbelievable year, he should be back for 2022 RG (Mincey if RG leaves) White Eguakun Braun Tarquin then Mincey (Mugharbill if Mincey is LT) i think we’ll have enough blowouts for the back ups to get quality game reps to sort it out going into spring 2022
Would RG really want a 5 year college career? Not many kids want that nowadays. If Ethan white stays healthy is he not gonna bulldoze folks? Think of how much work he's put in to beat the back injury, lose the weight, rehab a knee, and dominate a full season. I could see him ready for the NFL
