Exactly, home tests are being counted here.
They are being counted anywhere else.
Do you think the China and Russia have the number of home tests we do?
Just because they don't have the tests they don't not have the infections.
The data is trash from everywhere.

What is the benefit to dump a huge number of deaths on a single from a political stance? That just makes for a bigger headline.
More likely the data comes in inconsistently, I'd bet not all Health Departments run the same statewide.

Not disagreeing with you for the most part but you realize the Delta strain came from India where they have very low vaccinations.
High vaccination rates in the US certainly would have lowered the pool to get infected here but it wouldn't change the fact that variants will crop up as much of the world isn't vaccinated.
Hell my friend in AUS says they just now reaching 20% for the country of 25.6 million.....

While I'm sure if they wanted to doctors could probably go through the trouble of looking up if the patients are telling the truth about their shots if there is a database for that, but they really don't have the time or inclination. Whether they've had the shot or not won't really effect their care. They get treated has their symptoms present shot or not.

They aren't dumping a huge number of deaths on a single day. They are reporting the deaths that happened in the last seven days that were reported on that day. This cuts the numbers in half and always makes it look like deaths are going down. Then those later days gradually get increased to match reality, but keeping up with that is a lot of work, so no one does it.

We'll do a little trial. Today, 8/19, the official report is that 8 covid deaths were reported on the 18th. If you help me remember, I'll check that number for the 18th again on the 26th and we'll see how much it changes.

The difference is that COVID is infectious disease. Those other things tend to take longer to cause problems (a lifetime), and a long time to solve (diets, quitting smoking, etc). They don’t cause hospitals to see acute “waves” of infectious patients filling their ICU’s. And almost all of them could have protected themselves with zero cost (to them) and the most minimal effort.

There are a few places where they are discussing having to ration care due to the overwhelming # of COVID patients. The suspension of “elective procedures” is once again commonplace. Saw a thing where Lee Memorial Health system was contemplating converting a cafeteria into a COVID holding area at one of their hospitals.

Dealing with masses of unvaxxed patients must be frustrating as hell when it’s causing you to possibly delay or deny care for other issues, even if they are “just” elective, but it would be especially troubling if the overall quality of care declines and 80 or 90% of it was completely avoidable.

No. You literally just posted statistics saying that this virus is not an issue for people and statistically there is no worry. So, then, do you agree with me that we should not bother admitting these people to hospital because only 0.66% will die?

Exactly. My compassion for someone in the hospital with covid would be the same for someone who was drinking and driving.

If that is the case, then it just recently changed. Until about 2 weeks ago, Florida was reporting all deaths on the day the data came in, regardless of whether the death occurred the day before or 2 weeks before. Now Florida reports deaths for the day the death occurred. So if the death occurred 2 weeks before, the death total for that day goes up, and the death total for the current day does not.

Also, Florida is now dumping hundreds of deaths on one day, distributed throughout the previous weeks. A few days ago Florida's death total grew by nearly 600, even though the number of deaths reported for that actual day only grew by a small number.

This makes it difficult to determine how fast deaths are actually rising, which I am sure is the purpose of it. Florida's current 7 day average for deaths is very low right now. It's dropped from 114 a couple of weeks ago to 15 now.

Florida's current death total is 41138. We will soon see this total rise by many hundreds soon in a single day.

Hawaii not doing good right now. According the the CDC, 99.9% of Seniors(65+) are vaccinated. Unfortunately cases for 65+ are rising at extremely high rates. Before people say just mask up, Hawaii is at 90% mask compliant, so let's get rid of that idea before the "mask up" crowd chimes in.

While I can agree with the frustration I still don't agree with the sentiment.
Certainly the other contagious diseases don't cause waves of illnesses like this but then it becomes more about the volume and the "I'm over worked".

And it may jump. But isn't it better to be accurate and report the death for the day it happened as opposed to when its reported.
Over time the pattern will emerge as to deaths going up or down.

Certainly Delta causing way more people to get it will cause more overall deaths.

7 day average of deaths in Hawaii has been 1 since January. Vaccines are still working as advertised.

It’s a good thing I’m not a doctor for a number of reasons, primary being I am probably not smart enough.
However, I am responding to a series of posts concerning someone who is a doctor, that is the problem and it seems to be a problem that will only get worse.

Vaccines don't work as advertised. Everyone knows that. Advertised was 95% effective. That isn't happening.

After reading the op-ed, the Dr. is suffering from compassion fatigue. Have you noticed that in any of the medical professionals with whom you work?

Up until a couple of weeks ago, Florida was doing it one way. Now, with the largest spike in cases so far and with a big increase in deaths, Florida changed how they report deaths to show fewer deaths in the last week. If Florida had been doing it that way all along, fine. But changing it during a bad spike reeks of politics.
