TWJ COVID Tracker: The Latest COVID Numbers the Media May Not Want You to See (westernjournal.com)

Due to the seemingly dishonest, shifting nature of this coverage, The Western Journal has decided to provide regular updates on the COVID fatality rate in the United States as it changes over time. These statistics are taken from Our World in Data, a trusted source on COVID-related statistics.

    Aug. 16, 2021, Update:
0.66 percent case fatality rate (moving-average)

2.13 deaths per million people (7-day rolling average)

406 cases per million people (7-day rolling average)

In August, the U.S. continues to experience its lowest COVID-related fatality rate since the onset of the pandemic — roughly 0.66 percent.

Despite this, the majority of coverage on COVID over the week prior (Aug. 8 to Aug. 15) avoided reporting the fatality rate or overall death statistics, opting instead to cover the rising number of COVID cases.

This should be common sense, but apparently it is not.

Texas faces tipping point as COVID-19 spreads

Out of any state, Texas ranks second for both the most adults with confirmed COVID-19 in hospitals and intensive care units, trailing behind Florida, according to data from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The state’s lower vaccination rate plays a “huge role” in the current COVID-19 wave, said Angela Clendenin, an instructional assistant professor at the Texas A&M University School of Public Health.

She noted the state has reached a point where not enough residents are getting the jab, giving the virus a chance to mutate and develop more transmissible variants like the delta strain.

“It's just like this great, big open space for the virus to continue to infect people and even to mutate further,” she said. “The low vaccination rate, the lack of mask mandates, all that is doing is creating an opportunity for a more severe wave to happen in the future.”

Every single sentence in your post is false, at least up until the bolded part. You got that bolded part right, but for the wrong reasons.

1 in four Brazilians have taken Ivermectin. One in four Brazilians have taken Bolsonaro’s Covid cocktail

Additionally I have friends in Brazil and they have told me that many Brazilians are taking alternative treatments and that Ivermectin is at every corner pharmacy for $3-$5. It's a fact that there is widespread use of Ivermectin in Brazil. This fact cannot be disputed.

No, it hasn't been shown to be an effective treatment and making that claim is false. Cochrane Labs did not do the studies. They did a rigorous review of 14 RCT's and found no evidence to support the use of ivermectin for treating or preventing COVID-19 infection. Maybe next time you should try actually reading the data before making such comments.

Ivermectin is used to treat parasites.

I’m not concluding it’s useless against COVID since I have no qualification to do so, but a physician that posts on here suggested it’s probably most helpful improving patient outcomes in people who are infected with parasites. Why? Because it serves its purpose...addresses the parasitic infection, and frees up the body to focus on other things (such as fighting off the COVID virus). Like 65% of the global population is infected with parasites. So this medication could indeed be useful as part of the drug cocktail COVID patients get, especially in 3rd world countries.

That it is “widely shown as an effective treatment” is simply a false statement. At best the data appears mixed. You just keep latching on to the one that tells you what you want to hear. That is not the same thing as “widely known”.

    That’s amazing.

Imagine if 1 in 4 Americans had just taken Trumps cocktail of bleach and disinfectant. We could have ended the pandemic overnight. There’d be a run on caskets and funeral homes. But the pandemic would be over.

Doctors locally have access to the SHOTS system which, I'm told, is fairly easy to use to look up records. Is the participation in that distinct by county or perhaps up to doctors individually?

Believe what you want. It really doesn’t matter to me. You and millions like you have bought the bullshit and you took it like a shot of tequila. Enjoy the future “pandemics”. Now that governments have seen how effective they are, we will see more of them. It’s as certain as the next Biden Foreign Policy blunder.

Stop telling other people what was said it not said. And try actually telling the truth about the data. Until Delta, the vaccines were effective at stopping infection and spread. When the vaccines were first given, the length of the protection was unknown since we only understood their effectiveness for the period of testing. And, as posters pointed out, we were in a race to develop immunities against new variants that would evade the vaccines. But, people refused the vaccines. They exercised their beloved freedom to spread the disease. And all over the country where vaccination are are low, particularly in the right wing Confederate states, the virus has surged along with hospitalizations and deaths. Particularly as Delta became the dominant spread: because as many said here, failure to vaccinate would lead to the development of more resistant strains. We lost the race with respect to Delta because the freedom lovers refused to vaccinate. They exercised their freedom to die. And because of the spread of disinformation. So some don’t know what to believe. I and others have repeatedly posted the data on the overwhelming numbers of people being hospitalized who are not vaccinated, the lower age groups etc. Yet, in your zeal to spread disinformation, you continually focus on the smaller percentage of vaccinated people who end up sick or hospitalized. Yes, it happens. The vaccine isn’t a perfect wall. But, it is quite good. I really don’t know what motivates people to spread disinformation like you do, but it is dangerous and despicable. Because it does influence. And it shows that, at least for some, there is no reasoning with them. The “let’s be nice and convince them” crowd are engaged in folly.

They also cover hospitalization statistics and the effect on the medical system. Apparently, the Western Journal believes that death is the only relevant metric. And that somehow people getting infected, real sick or hospitalized is somehow oK? Well, not going to check their statistics because the Western Journal is a garbage source of disinformation for right wingers. But, as we have noted, the lower death rates reflect the vaccination rates among older and vulnerable people and better treatment. So, assuming accuracy of the data, the data would prove the effectiveness of the vaccines. What the data and waning immunity shows is that. At some point, we may return to having at risk people become infected and seriously ill. That is what the freedom living anti-vaxxers are exposing others too. So, maybe that is why folks get angry at those who exercise their freedom to spread a disease? Btw: treatment is expensive. Hospitalizations are expensive. And they burden the system.

So given this, we should basically check for vaccination status at the hospitals, and if they are not vaccinated, tell them to go home since the virus is not serious and take their Dog's Heartworm Pills (Ivermectin) and they will be fine. Stats prove it. Check.

I read that they may have found another treatment that is by far the most effective. It's an older drug, used for about 25 years, for the treatment of depression. What it does well is reduce the inflammation in the body so that Covid doesn't cause cytosine series of events. It's meant to be taken early in the process but when taken, it reduces the chances of hospitalization to almost zero.

Yeah, it's called fluvoxamine. Here's an article about it:

Doctors think this common antidepressant might treat COVID-19 (msn.com)

    • The researchers found a significant difference between the group of people who took fluvoxamine and the placebo group. None of the people on fluvoxamine developed complications compared to 8% in the control cohort.

Well, I have no idea what the numbers say but I can tell you the last couple of weeks has hit home. I got breakthrough Covid and am almost back to 100% (never came close to going to the hospital - just the days of severe sinus congestion), my nephew, his wife, niece, then my sister and her husband, then our pastor's 18 yr old Olympic XC champion daughter almost died from Covid, a well-known, well-loved Pelham police officer died from Covid at the way-too-young age of 39. The guy who gave me this in the office, his close hiking buddy died last weekend to Covid. Those who died, all were unvaccinated. My brother-in-law who literally can die from a common cold survived Covid because of the vaccine. He's about as alt right as anyone can get, but he advocates for the vaccine now. My sister had her 1st shot and was 2 weeks away from her 2nd shot when she got it and she said that was 100% her fault for being mom and trying to take care of 2 sick kids without her mask on. She said that those 10 days were the worst she had ever lived through. Everyone I've spoken with who had Covid, have said "minor symptoms my ass....". Maybe early in the Pandemic the strain was more easy to deal with, with more asymptomatic people, but with Delta, I know of no one who said they tested positive and had no symptoms or minor symptoms. You either are sick for 10 days or you tested negative.
