Agreed, Americans are lazy, Obesity will not change in this country and will only get worse. Americans just want the easy way out and take a magic pill that will help them lose weight.

Being exceptionally healthy will help me if I do get the virus. The mask will prevent (a little) from me getting it and will help (a lot) from others getting it from me if i do get it. Pretty common knowledge.

I am also not going to hop on the health train as a result of a global pandemic. I have been super healthy most of my life for a hundred different reasons.

I don't think specific foods are the cause for obesity. It's mainly the overconsumption of hyperpalatable ultra processed foods that are the problem.

I was told that one of the reasons I didn't have a terrible case was being on Keto. So why would Keto matter? So Keto shifts your body into burning ketones for energy and your store of glycogen is almost nil. Viruses need glucose to propagate in your body. No glucose, no virus. Now, I'm the only one in my family that is on Keto. I've been on it for a year along with intermittent fasting. But when I took ill, I couldn't do the cooking so I had to get off Keto for the time being. I wonder had I stuck with Keto and IF, would this thing been knocked out of me even quicker. No way to tell, but there is a study in a medical journal that indicated this possibility and it wasn't until the summary when they said maybe Ketogenic diets can prevent or at least limit the impact of Covid on the body. Here is one study:

Ketogenic Diet as a Preventive and Supportive Care for COVID-19 Patients

One of my employees has been out sick since Tuesday last week. Guy in his late 40s, in good shape, not vaccinated. He got covid tested, came back positive on Friday. He's fortunate in that he's not having any breathing difficulties, but the fatigue/fever are still kicking his ass. The exchange I had with him this morning ended with: "I wish I had the vaccine, this is some tough stuff."

Exceptionally healthy people have also been hospitalized and died because of COVID. Don't think for one second that you are special because you are healthy. The virus does not care. Does the fact that you are healthy minimize the chances that you will be hospitalized or die? Sure it does, but being healthy doesn't make you bulletproof.

OK, just looking at it, it sounded like it was based on associations. It is probably true that people that eat lots of meat don't eat a good diet, and consume lots of sugars carbs and unhealthy fats also. Get the burger, you also get mayo, a nutritionless bun, a side of fries and probably a sugar soft drink. The meat in itself is not likely the problem.

Those that don't eat meat probably eat healthier all around. They are obviously paying attention to their diet.

Around 1960 less than 1% had diabetes. Now approaching 8%.

    https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/statistics/slides/long_term_trends.pdf

Back then people consumed plenty of meat. But then the anti cholesterol craze came, and people replaced fats with processed sugar filled foods, which lead to the diabetes trend.

It's not to say consuming excess amount of meats and dairy are healthy, but it likely has little to do with with boom in diabetes.

Your assertion that fish is unhealthy is ridiculous. No offense, but I'm guessing you are vegetarian and it has become a religion for you to the point of disseminating disinformation. Perhaps I am wrong, and if so, I apologize in advance.

You have no basis saying masks have "no impact" on covid numbers.

That's the key. It's not eating meat that is the issue. The #1 issue in America is eating a high-fat, high-carb diet. If you ate a low carb diet, great. Eat a low fat diet, great. But eating a high-fat, high-carb diet is why obesity is such a problem in America. It's the #1 reason why men have heart attacks. It's why I decided to try Keto September 2020 along with intermittent fasting. I stopped gaining weight (I was close to 200) and made it back down to the mid 160s before I took ill. I plan on getting back on once I get a negative Covid test. I just love the feeling that Keto gives me that no other diet has helped (Mediterranean diet is close). No gastric reflux, more energy, less hunger, zero snacking, BP lower, decrease in inflammation (20% reduction in plaque in my arteries).

You like to be anecdotal, so let me give you one.

I have two truck drivers that both currently have Covid.
The younger one (26) has not been vacinated.
The older one. (60) has been vaccinated.
The younger one gave it to the older one.
The younger healthy one is currently hospitalized. The older one who got it from the younger one, returns to work tomorrow.

So, yes...the vaccinated one got Covid. But even being 35 years older, he escaped serious symptoms, and is returning to work while the younger healthier guy is in a hospital bed.

    So again...I ask you:
    Do...they...work...on...many...people?
Yes or no? Are they reducing symptoms? Are they protecting from hospitalization?

I never claimed masks or vaccines would be even close to 100% effective.
Link me to where I did, or stop saying it.

I haven't had Covid. I hope not to get it because of vulnerable people close to me. I want to add another layer of protection for them.

I don't think i am bullet proof. You stand a much better chance of surviving just about any kind of illness if you are physically in better shape. Covid has killed healthy people, but, without looking at the numbers, I would bet people with preexisting conditions faired much worse.
I'm vaccinated, wear a mask where I need to and don't hang out with people licking doorknobs. If i get covid, I am in a much better position than just about anyone else my age.

I think this can be accomplished with any type of caloric restriction. Keto is not magic, it's just one tool in fighting obesity and disease.

The number 1 issue is mainly just the overconsumption of food mainly in the form of HIGHLY PROCESSED fats and carbs.

Dude you're making yourself look silly.
I actually know people at the hospital and people who have been in the hospital with it.
Literally every person I know in my local hospital says to get the vax. They say ALL the people being hospitalized are unvaxed.
Why don't YOU actually talk to someone who knows what they are talking about instead of spewing your uneducated nonsense.

I respect a persons hesitancy to get the needle and the vax. I was that way.
What I dont respect is just made up opinion, thrown at each side by the differing factions.

Show me data that shows the vax does not help with serious disease.
Show me data that shows the vax has no effect on Delta.
Show me data that shows the vax does not limit the chances of hospitalization.

Show me. Give me a link.

Don't worry about my likes and dislikes.
Most of the dislikes come from the left.

I just don't get up in the morning hoping to tick off the other side.

It's called free thought. You should give it a whirl.
What you are is not conservative at all. You have become a rigid right winger.
Rigid and conservative are not the same thing.

We know the fact that the vaccines are effective against serious illness, hospitalization and death because we have the data to show it. We know they truly work.

See the Data on Breakthrough Covid Hospitalizations and Deaths by State

The article has a chart of breakthrough cases by state, hospitalizations, and deaths as a percentage of overall covid hospitalizations and deaths.

I don't see how anyone can look at that chart and say that the vaccinations don't work. Yes, there are exceptions, as with everything. The highest percent I saw for the vaccines being effective was 95% so even they are saying there will be breakthrough cases.

100% agree that the long term things go moot. The pocket fillers at Monsanto will guarantee that.

Look, I hear what you are saying Q, and I think there is a point to be noted about theater. Of course some people are doing that. No question.

The issue I see with your case is that masks are pretty much known to lose effectiveness with long term exposure in close quarters. So at home and in bed with your spouse they really will lose some effectiveness. (insert joke here ;))

Most of the data I see shows masks are best in settings where you will have mid term type contact. 15 minutes, maybe an hour. Closed in room type stuff, but where a separation point happens somewhat quickly. I doubt it helps much walking down the aisle of the grocery store where you pass someone for 10 seconds. I doubt it helps much at home where hour upon hour of exposure takes place.
    .
My belief is the data shows it helps in between those two scenarios.

Hope your run was great my friend. :)
