Damn...blasted him ten yards downhill and then pancaked him on the ground. At least it wasnt Desmond Watson doing the pancake. Poor guy is probably 8 inches thinner and 2 feet wider now.
Strickland 2.0. I just don't see it in him. Massive, but I just don't see him being able to handle SEC rush ends.
And that is bad for him to recruit a guy that any other SEC team would want starting for them? I don't like the OL recruiting also, but I am trying to get your point. Is it OK to bash our players who have worked their butts off. Should we bash Taylor, Johnson (a wrestler), and Forsythe for how bad they are going to look playing in the NFL for decades since they were such lowly rated recruits? All high school recruits at OL are projects.
idk about ALL OL hs kids being projects but in get your point. Basically it’s a crap shoot. We thought Ivey would progress being that he was damn near a day 1 starter but never progressed yet Waany ended up better than him and was better than Ivey from jump
I confess. There is one OL every year who can play immediately. Every year he goes to Bama. But it is a rough job projecting OL. I will give Ivey that he played injured a lot. But he never became a consistent top OL. He had some players of the week in the SEC.
Alabama, for example, is not better because they win individual recruiting battles. They are better because the overall quality of their recruits is so high. Of course some less sought after recruits will excel and some sought after recruits will be misses: that doesn’t demonstrate anything. Similarly, while I’d agree that rankings don’t mean much, what does mean a great deal is having a host of SEC/regional teams that win whatever battle they have with us. As with backyard football, having your pick of players is a decided advantage. Now, it is conceivable that Mullen could be so good that none of that matters. Fine, let’s see. I agree you hire coaches to win games and not win recruiting battles. We will be playing Bama, Georgia and LSU in Mullen’s fourth season with four classes under his belt—let’s let the performance in the field decide.
I think he was a bit elusive here as he’s not addressing the issue of missing on guys we go after. It looks like we have to go to plan Bs and I really wish the press guys would press him on this.
