I have not followed the Olympics, but I thought people were saying that this team was not very good? I guess they got better and better as the tournament went on??
Not very good by USA basketball standards is a relative term, but Kevin Durant really did drag them to a gold medal.
That is great for Durant. It feels like he has struggled against his own desire for to be recognized as one of the greatest....winning championships but feeling like he was in someone's shadow a bit? Maybe the Olympics has become the one place he could "make his mark" by carrying the team. Either way, happy for him and the other guys on the team. It certainly felt like some people were rooting against them and/or Popovich at times.
I believe Durant has 4 Olympic gold medals now and is the all time leading scorer in US Olympic history.
KD is the best player in the world right now. Watching him D up Gobert was fun. Solid team that played hard. Love to see a collection of stand up men represent our country and win the gold.
After a long hard season, they played for the "USA" on their jerseys. Not paid for this. And played very hard.
Was a great game. Loved watching Bam set picks and crash the boards. 3 point shots weren't falling for us all game. If France hadn't surrendered the ball 18 times it would have been a much different story.
Congrats to both the men's and women's teams. The rest of the world is certainly getting better at basketball, but ultimately America still reigns supreme.
