Lawrence Johnson, one of more than 220 Covid patients at UF Health Jacksonville on Monday, said that he does not drink or smoke and that he tries to keep healthy. But Johnson, 67, who has been hospitalized for 22 days, conceded that he did not get vaccinated because he listened to “foolishness.”

“Every day I get on the phone: ‘Please do not play. Get the vaccination.’ If I wasn’t stupid, I wouldn’t be in this predicament. Don’t listen to foolishness. Go get vaccinated.”

I have no idea. One minute they take me into a broom closet. They pull out a needle...and I wake up in Central Park!

Broward and especially Dade are less solidly blue with each passing decade. In the 2020 presidential election, Biden only carried Dade count 617, 000 to 533,000. From Reagan making Cubans "insti-citizens" at the Orange Bowl to the Elian Gonzales saga to the morons running around claiming that the Democrats want to institute a Castro-style socialism and many people from Cuba/Central American countries believing that horse poop.....times are changing in Dade and Broward.

All 11 million residents in Wuhan will now be PCR tested. Why can’t individual states in the US do this where cases are surging?

“Amid recent surging coronavirus cases in Florida, a top Republican National Committee official in the state has spread anti-vaccine rhetoric and misinformation,

comparing the Biden administration's vaccine efforts to Nazi-era "brown shirts," and twice calling the vaccines "the mark of the beast," comparable to a "false god."

In addition to peddling medical misinformation, Feaman spread conspiracy theories. Feaman pushed the falsehood that the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump, peddled Capitol insurrection conspiracies suggesting that the January 6 insurrection was a "set up to make the Trump folks look bad"

News from the ground. I spent a few days with manufacturers and I think we should all prepare to hang out at home again this fall and have product availability issues.

    -covid spiking here and overseas
-Vietnam is shut down for 2 weeks (we don’t make or buy too much there but almost all your clothes are made there).
-other south east Asia countries are spiking
    - Met with a Midwest manufacturer who said his California factory is 70% vaccinated but his Indiana factory is 30% vaccinated and battling covid cases.
    - Met with a US manufacture of a product that had thousands assembled ready to ship with no chips in them so when you pull the trigger or push the button the item doesn’t knows what to do yet… need the chips from China.
    - Chicago rail yard is shut down basically and a major bottleneck in the country unable to handle the volume of retailers restocking shelves
    - Worker shortage is tough and employees don’t want as much overtime
    - I saw Walmart and several other retailers require employee masks again

Seems like the right wingers are wising up though, Fox News pushed vaccinations hard this AM.

Miami Dade is 73% vaccinated. But with a large population, and visitors from wherever, that is the way it goes

No way Desantis’ actions backfires. :emoji_upside_down:

Heck he might be sued for murder. What’s it called if you take actions that directly kill people?

I just saw 61% as of August 2 for Miami-Dade County, which makes a lot more sense to me given the demographics.

Either way, the continuous influx of visitors probably reduces the effectiveness of the vaccination campaign to some degree.

The only good news so far is it looks like most of the important school systems in the state are telling DeSantis to "bugger off" and that they will enforce classroom mask mandates.

Nearly 40% of Miami-Dade hospital ventilators in use as COVID-19 surge continues

So maybe it’s better for a state to follow cdc & medical, sensible guidelines instead of a governor trying to appease the trump followers and tucker. Our state has Awful leadership.

desantis is more concerned about scoring points with trump followers than encouraging vaccine

“DeSantis’ campaign is already marketing anti-Fauci material, including “Don’t Fauci My Florida

Ron DeSantis PAC fundraises off Anthony Fauci hate, again
