This is from out of leftfield but I bet Eric knew about this?! More info: Green Run basketball star Elijah Kennedy signs with Florida More info part 2: Gators Add Elijah Kennedy for 2021-22 - Florida Gators Part 3: Florida Gators sign freshman shooting guard Elijah Kennedy from Virginia
End of the bench emergency guy (1 step up from walkon). A recruiting page on Rivals listed the schools interested. LOL. Elijah Kennedy, 2021 Shooting guard - Rivals.com
I figured MW was not going into the season 2 under the scholarship max so to me this last minute add to the roster is not a complete surprise. I fully understand getting a quality forward this late to transfer in is difficult but I still hold out hope that the last available scholarship can be filled by someone taller than 6'5". A man can have dreams, can't he?!
TOS said that he had a gruesome knee injury in Feb 2019 so that probably led to him not being rated as he didn't play until the following year. Kennedy looks like a shooter and at 6'4, this is good late take by Mike White. Just found this article which I think is okay to post. Below are some quotes and the link. Kennedy helped Green Run High School to a shared state championship in 2020 and a state runner-up finish in 2021. He was the VHSCA Class 5 State Player of the Year in 2021 and notched a 37-point outing with nine 3-pointers in a single game during the 2021 regionals, then went for 27 in the state semifinals and 21 in the state championship game. The 6-foot-4 left-hander, who is regarded as one of the "purest shooters in the state" according to The Virginian Pilot, played under head coach Kenneth Harris and assistant coach Rod Cooper at Green Run. And we were worrying whether CC was coming back or not. We have a plan! Okay, that was a kind of low blow.
I think he decided to grow in college rather than play HS ball. He probably won't see much PT this season. As long as he understands this I say...welcome!
Not far off. For sh*ts and giggles I averaged the heights listed for the 12 scholarship players on the official team roster and came up with an average height of 6'5.5". Shorter if you add in our two non scholarship players.
I don’t believe this has any indication regarding KJ, as they don’t play the same position and it sounds like he isn’t planning on a lot of playing time this year anyway. And we had the open scholly.
If he is totally recovered I expect to see him on the floor quite a bit. The kid looks to be a really good addition to the program.
Watching his videos everything is him dunking and blocking shots. I was thinking he was a raw athlete but maybe was rated low because of lack of shooting. If he’s actually known as a shooter and flew under the radar for other reasons (injuries, covid season, etc), maybe this is a good find. The “recruiting rankings” for this year and next year could be all over the place esp for players that weren’t already getting hyped up early before all those issues.
From the article: Kennedy will join Norfolk’s Keyontae Johnson at Florida. The two connected when Kennedy made a recent visit. “It was cool. He didn’t really try to persuade me or anything, which actually made it better because that’s a lot of pressure by itself,” Kennedy said. “It was pretty cool. We actually hung out at his apartment.” Harris said he’s glad Johnson will be there to help with Kennedy’s adjustment. “One thing that made me feel comfortable was with everything Keyontae has been through, the school is still helping him out,” Harris said. “(Kennedy) will feel comfortable with him being there with another 757 guy.”
