I have been saying it for months. Edit: theorizing it. Based in the small studies up north where they gave vaccines to previously infected people and found more robust immune reactions from the first shot than in those not previously infected.

I posted it here. They will read it. This isn’t and shouldn’t be political. Sad that it is.

Serious question, when they test for COVID, can they tell whether it is the alpha or the delta variant?

Fact check: COVID-19 PCR tests don't detect virus variants

The test itself doesn't determine it. But some samples are sent to be genetically sequenced, which determines variant.

I think the UK genetically sequences almost all of their tests, unlike most countries.

It was my understanding the "conventional wisdom" was vaccination was better than prior infection, especially variants, but that was mostly theorized. There wasn't really hard data to back it up. Turns out that wasn't the case. Good to know.

We are still learning. Not everyone bats a thousand. The information and the facts are what they are. A lot of information flies around, sometimes based upon data/evidence, some on speculation/hypothesis. It gets jumbled up, and then amplified, and perceived as gospel, then the naysayers scream all of the "conventional wisdom" is wrong and seek ridiculous alternative disinformation theories.

I personally took 3 employees to get the rapid test, all 3 came back positive and I asked the staff if it was the Delta variant. They said that they did not have that ability that mainly the hospitals did, but I would think or maybe I just assumed that they send their info to the CDC or another lab for collection

The blood banks used to test for the covid antibodies, I just donated again but they said there no longer testing for that. I find that odd since I'm O+ and have had the antibodies since November they would always tell how that I was a perfect match for a person in Alachua and having the antibodies was such a plus.

Interesting study on natural immunity. Good information, and the CDC should probably change their recommendations for those fully recovered, and showing no symptoms. For some, strange reason, not yet understood, some recovered COVID patients with long haul symptoms saw those symptoms dissipate and/or completely disappear after taking the vaccine. But for those with natural immunity, and no long haul symptoms, looks like there is no reason to get the vaccine as of now. I would expect natural immunity, like vaccine immunity, to wane over time. But we won't know just how much until time allows us.

If we also add those with natural immunity to the vaccinated, then by some measures, we should be at herd immunity rates. But I think delta has other ideas. It spreads so fast, that it looks like we need more than 70% with some sort of immunity to stop it. In addition, the fact that vaccinated people have a relatively high rate of breakthrough cases with delta, it may not be possible to reach herd levels against delta with the vaccine alone. Fortunately, the vaccine does provide excellent protection against major COVID symptoms.

I would say the breakthrough rate is mild, while 2-3x less than unvaxxed—can still spread.

Sorry....no link to this because I heard it on the radio while going to get lunch at the drive through:

    • 4 weeks ago, only 8% of Counties in the United States were reporting increased community spread.
    • This past week, 59.7% of all US Counties are now reporting increased community spread.
    And.....

Of course I'm talking about Delta, you twerp!
