Need at least two preferably three in my opinion. We lose the two grad transfers next year and you should always expect to lose someone to the transfer portal this day and age
Jamari Lyons committment date is October 6th and named UF his leader. Last visit will be to USCe September 24th through 26th for an OV
Jamari Lyons reportedly had a great time at the BBQ after FNL. We need two of him, maybe three. I'm not sure he doesn't pop for the good guys before his reported October commitment date. Why play games when you know what you want.
ET; There have been articles on TOS that have stated he will let Coaches know his final decision prior to his official commitment on October 6th. However he is solid on that date because it is his mother's birthday. When he will alert the coaches on where he is going is not know at this time though.
@bobbybaker86 , as I commented over on the pay side, I’m guessing this is posturing for filling the huge spot that WAS going to be Nolens seeings as how it appears that ship has sailed.
agree. Wanna see how the kid looks this upcoming year. Looks like he has potential to be a solid recruit
Looks like we might just as well get accustomed to this kind of recruiting. If it produces championships, fine. If not,,,.
Agree with the coaches following this kid, but he is a take if the staff wants him. What's not to like? After watching his highlights, I don't agree that he is a replacement for Walter Nolen who thumbed his nose at UF's last big recruiting weekend before the season. At 6'4"/290, he has the frame to get larger, but he has the speed of a SDE. He can play inside or outside so excellent flexibility. I don't mean a tweener either. He's big enough to play at SDE going into his senior year. Hastings came and worked out for the staff. They thought enough of him to make him offer. As our coaches do their own evaluations, I'm good with it. UF and other schools are ahead of the recruiting services which are once again lagging on a recruit. Take a look at Hastings' offer sheet that has blown up recently: Arizona State Florida Georgia Tech Indiana Miami Michigan Missouri Notre Dame Tennessee Virginia Some of those offers suggest Hastings has what it takes between the ears to boot. Again, what's not to like?
Nice breakdown. Look at the offers. I'm not thrilled with a guy that had three weak offers but that's where we are at some positions. A South Florida type ranked 40th with size and speed seems like a take. The services probably burn their first 20 spots trying to represent good prospects nationally. When we get down to taking unranked we are in trouble but this is def not the case here. I especially like your seeing in him the ability to play in and out. We need that. three DL/DT types and a true DE(Nolan)would be a super DL class considering where we are at the moment. If the staff enrolls four HS DL next fall that will be solid enough.
When you look at his highlights and you compare him to a comparable guy like Tyre West committed to Uga, you have to wonder what makes one a .96 guy and the other a .86 guy. You don't really see a great deal of difference in speed and explosiveness, and West isn't a guy that overpowers people in his highlights. It's not the kind of difference you see between a Wingo/James compared to our former player Reese at LB, where the one is an incredible athlete and the other is a decent athlete. You have to wonder how much hype goes to someone who got themselves out in the interest of recruiters early and those who were low key and didn't camp and missed playing games because of covid. Both have a long road of developing before they play significant minutes but have the raw tools that can be developed.
Similarly, I feel the same way about Lyons and Nolen. Looking at film, it's hard to see why Nolen is #1 at .99 while Lyons is .89. I don't see a physical or talent difference. Apparently, the coaches don't either. Another issue to consider is the thoughts on this board by what seems like a majority of the posters. It's attracting in state Florida talent. Both Hastings and Lyons play in a dang good high school football state. If it were left up to me, I'd take a state of Florida player every time even over a recruiting service higher rated player from a distant state where the high school competition likely doesn't do as much to get a player ready for the rough and tumble SEC. Miami won multiple national championships when they put a fence around south Florida and then cherry picked what they wanted from elsewhere.
Went and looked at Tyree West's film. I'd take Hastings over West. There is no way there is that kind of talent difference as predicted by the recruiting service. Hastings is like a puppy still to grow into his paws. West put on weight throughout high school career and may have come close to physically peaking at 6'3"/280. He looks like a true SDE while Hastings at 6'4"/290 looks like he will develop into a multi-position talent with the ability to play both DT and SDE. That type of flexibility likely doesn't exist for West at the same high level as Hastings. These players are perfect examples of what Spurrier says about UF players turning out better than the higher rated UGA players. It's also an indication of why Dan Mullen gets more done with less and Kirby Smart gets less done with more. Bottom line, you have to trust that the coaches who are getting the better results knows what's best over recruiting site supposed experts who don't make their livings getting results on the football field. These same supposed experts think they know more about QB talent than Dan Mullen and the people who put on the Elite 11 Camp too. Arrogant much? Absolutely and wrong too often without admitting it to boot. You just magically see changes in a players ranking over the course of the run up to their final rankings. In the meantime, fans use the differences as an excuse to blame perceived poor recruiting on the coaches rather than the recruiting site that has fouled up. Perception isn't reality.
Well I cannot tell you exactly with Nolen and Lyons, but I can tell you what I like better about each. I like Nolen's explosion off the line better, and I like Lyons' power better. That's why if we got both I would prefer to bulk up Lyons more to hold the point, and use Nolen as a disruptor at DT or SDE.
Again, you’re using one case for a generalization. In the majority of cases the recruiting analysts are right on. We are missing on many of the higher rated recruits we are targeting. That is impossible to ignore.
