I just had a bizarre interaction with someone in another place who believes that vaccines don't work because of the smallpox outbreak in NYC in 2002.

There was no smallpox outbreak in NYC in 2002, but there was a made for TV movie about a smallpox outbreak in NYC in 2002. How can you help people like this?

The study, which was published July 19 in the Nature Communications journal, tested nearly an entire Italian town of 3,000 residents in Vo', Italy for infection with COVID between Feb. and March 2020. The researchers from the University of Padova and Imperial College London then tested them again in May and Nov. 2020 for antibodies against the virus.

According to the study, 98.8 percent of the people who had tested positive for COVID in February or March showed detectable levels of antibodies in November—which means that COVID antibodies persist for at least nine months after infection. But study co-author Enrico Lavezzo, PhD, associate professor at the University of Padova in Italy, said that the antibodies were diminished.

"At the follow-up, which was performed roughly nine months after the outbreak, we found that antibodies were less abundant, so we need to continue to monitor antibody persistence for longer time spans," he said in a statement.

The researchers for the Italian study found that persistent antibodies after nine months were present in patients who had both symptomatic and asymptomatic cases. "We found no evidence that antibody levels between symptomatic and asymptomatic infections differ significantly, suggesting that the strength of the immune response does not depend on the symptoms and the severity of the infection," lead author Ilaria Dorigatti, PhD, a lecturer at Imperial College London, said in a statement.

 

This is consistent what I've generally heard in the past. Yes, you still have protection, but it does diminish over time. What is new is that it didn't matter if you were sympomatic or not. In the past they said the sicker you are the more resistant you have.

 

A smallpox outbreak would be a serious deal. After 9/11 there was a lot of discussion if we should get further small pox boosters and whether we had enough available if smallpox was used as a bio weapon. But I never heard of any outbreaks

 

Re receiving the Pfizer vaccine

I feel much better knowing that if I become infected with covid I’m most likely going to have minor symptoms and stay out of the hospital and off a ventilator.

To me it’s a win win “best” case scenario.

Being vaxed there’s less chance I catch it, less chance I spread it, and minimum effects on me. Should I become infected it will give me a natural immunity of limited duration.

 

You say this while Pfizer is touting 3rd shot is the charm routine?

 

And some people on here wonder why some don't trust the CDC and Fauci. How about you don't lie to the public. That's a good start.

My solution to the problem of getting more people vaccinated:

Ford buys Pfizer and hires Ford NASCAR drivers for vaccine ads.
GM buys Moderna and hires Chevy NASCAR drivers for vaccine ads.

I say we need to hold our horses with this 3rd shot. We need to see more clinical data to know whether this marker translates to need, and in whom.

 

Agree but Pzizer will be pushing for this. And if anyone questions why, go look at PFE's earnings report they just posted. PFE sold $7.8 Billion in Covid shots in the the 2nd quarter alone.

Curious how much money the anti-vaxers are costing the rest of society.

 

I agree that it is hardly "settled science". However, and the point I was making was, no one in the field of experts has been able to disprove the points made by Anderson and his team in the Proximal Origins papers about the viral "skeleton" is almost impossible to talk around and just because most non-virologists like me do not fully grasp the details does not make the science "unsettled" to many of them.

 

I don’t think it’s about “disproving” his points. But I have read another NYT piece where the author specifically does provide explanations as to how Anderson’s theory isn’t as iron clad as professed. I think I posted it here once already. I’ll see if I can find it when not on my phone.

 

That is fair enough, and I have missed that post once before I apologize. There have been times when this thread was so active that it was difficult to keep up with.

Rumors floating around now that the vaccinated are the ones pushing the delta spike. All you can do is shake your head at this point.
