Yeah, he was a 7th round pick, #216 overall, with a slot value of $203,400. His star faded quite a bit over the last year.
You just never know what you’re going to see or read on the business side of the game—I wish JL the best, but honestly what I see in this move is apparently the Indians (and that’s going to stay their name as far as I’m concerned) are putting JL in the position of here’s your chance—you’ve got to go out and prove yourself. Again, best of luck!
I wish all Gators signees the best of luck as they move on to pro ball... JL signing for a fraction of Mace bonus--- well I think it highights exactly why JL threw hs glove against dugout wall (I believe it was at USCe).... He feels he was poorly coached at UF. He came in as a top freshman talent with great potential; he pitched in big games- remember 2018 Super Regional vs Auburn-- and then relagated to relief in mid season 2021? Stange and a a bit of a walkabout by Sully, i feel. JL has talent to make it and honestly I don't see how his four years at UF helped. Sadly tooked what he could get in $ and is moving on. Good luck Jack.
Out of curiosity, surprised he signed or surprised by the bonus? Aleman: What makes you think he comes back? It would be best case for UF imo going into the draft to lose 4 recruits and keep Aleman and you seem to believe it might happen.
Posts 1 and 2 are cleaning up nicely. Of the current players we are still waiting to see if Fabian, Hickey, and Aleman sign. With the high schoolers we are waiting on Petty and Evans. If anyone knows differently let me know so I can keep the thread list up to date. Once we get to fall classes I'll combine the two lists and create a working roster going into fall ball. Thanks to all for keeping it going.
Kyle Larsen is a RHP high school signee drafted in the 18th round, still unsigned. Also, JUCO transfers, Antonio Knowles (13th round) and Shawn Guilliams (11th round), both pitchers, are unsigned.
Money. However, I think Jack lost confidence in Sully. This signing is a direct reflection in that. There is not much left for Aleman. If he could put together a consistent season, he has the potential to get at least $1M+ that Mace got instead of $75k.
jd— I truly wish him the best and would like to have him back—but you, me, and everyone else knows if he comes back for his final year he will have zero leverage in the following draft, i.e., take it or leave it. We’ll see what happens.
That is why he could come back. He isn’t in his final year. He played at FIU, St Johns and now UF. COVID gave a free year. He should only be a JR next year unless I am mistaken.
I wish we had a true insider who could let us know what the chemistry was on the team and between the team and the coaches all year I just never did seem to settle down if langworthy was still on the team I could probably give you a pretty good idea of what was going on the parents of players were pretty tight-lipped
Greg— While I agree with what you’re saying I think the critical time frame for him—you don’t get a free year—he’s used three years of eligibility. At his age—that clock doesn’t stop and pro careers are going to last for only so long. So IMHO it’s about getting into the game at the best time for the players
It's my understanding he had an extra year. I understand your point on leverage, however I thought if he came back he had two more. Same with Lefwich. I thought 2020 didn't count.
I dropped Larsen into post #2 so he is listed with the rest of the high school players. I think I'll hold off on the transfers because who knows who will show up or be a contributor. Once we see a fall roster come out I'll add them all together.
jd— I’m also talking about their actual ages—that clock is always running. Milb is a route best short traveled to have a chance at any real time at the MLB level.
