    From this morning’s Ledger.

With the state averaging almost 6,500 new Covid-19 cases over the past week – a level approaching those marked last summer – the governor also urged Floridians to get vaccinated.

Health officials report that 47.7% of the state’s population is vaccinated, below the national average of 49.1% — with vaccine hesitancy most distinct among younger Floridians and in counties where both former President Donald Trump and DeSantis drew the biggest share of voters.

The vaccine rate is better among seniors, considered most at-risk of becoming seriously ill or dying from the virus.

“We have three vaccines available, any adult can get it, at pharmacies, health departments, you name it,” De-Santis said.

But the governor also took a swipe at “some of the messaging” coming from health officials.

“I do not agree with some of these quote-unquote experts who lambaste people and criticize them or say they’re stupid… that’s not the way to reach folks,” DeSantis said. “That’s one of the reasons I always said: ‘no mandates.’” Biden dialed back Monday his earlier criticism of Facebook for contributing to vaccine misinformation proliferating on social media and keeping some people from being immunized. DeSantis, though, turned the debate on health experts, arguing that they presented “bad advice” over the past year.

“Have a little humility when you’re trying to carry that message,” he said. “Understand that there are some people that may have qualms. What I try to do is just present the data.”

It should be noted that as he is saying that he tries to "just present the data" that he implemented a system in which the data was not released on a daily basis until the latest surge was already started.

He has also stopped private businesses from requiring it to utilize their services, which is absurd.

Couldn’t care less about his political affiliation and more to do with his idiocy of acting like he’s done such a great job as he kept the state open and let Covid run rampant. This would have all been other months ago if a few whiny, spoiled babies could put up with social distancing, wearing a mask, and getting vaccinated, but it’s just too much for some people.

As he should. I won't require any of my employees to get the vaccine nor do will ask any of them to provide proof, that would be absurd

You support the government enforcing your decision making on other businesses, apparently. Probably while claiming to not be a fan of big government.

Good move by DeSantis. I do think that his approach will reach more of the unvaccinated and I actually agree with him that high-browed approach by some (most experts don't do that though) is counterproductive.

And that's your choice. But DeSantis is telling businesses they can't choose how to run their own businesses.

this?? seems half-hearted at best. He could be a little stronger in his conviction that all eligible people should get vaccinated. as we have read here, more healthy and younger people are being hospitalized and even killed by the delta variant that wouldn't even be widely spread if a lot more people would have gotten vaccinated 60 days ago

DeSantis encourages vaccination to fight Delta variant, critics call for more effort (wptv.com)

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — As a more transmissible version of COVID-19 grows in the U.S., Florida's governor said Tuesday those concerned should get vaccinated.

"The best thing you can do if you haven't gotten a vaccine, particularly if you're somebody who's older, particularly if you have any health problems, is to get a shot," DeSantis said.

What would you propose he do about the unvaccinated other than to keep telling people to get vaccinated?

I think having different people using different tactics can help increase a message's reach. Whether you agree with his policy, you have to admit that he's been very successful at reaching a large portion of Florida's population. I'd give his messaging tactics a chance.

In comparison to other states though, Florida is 27th from the bottom, above most of the red states, and below nearly all blue states. He needs to step up his game to put the state in a better position.

Let private businesses choose to set vaccination requirements if they want to do so. Make failing to get vaccinated less attractive.
