    Why add the 12% of 12 and under? If they’re unvaccinated you can’t just add them to the herd immunity total just because they’re ineligible. Because they can’t get the vaccine at this point it raises the number needed of adults. We’re still at %56, but instead of needing 65% of the population, or whatever the original number was, we’d really need more like %75 of adults since the 12 and under population can’t contribute.

    Well, for the second time it appears to be originating with an unvaxxed player. Highly likely that being in close proximity for extended periods of time that something like the Delta variant evaded their antibody protection and was able to infect them. Reports are that all players are either showing no symptoms or very mild symptoms.

    People keep screaming about how much more rapidly Delta is spreading because it is more infectious, but I cannot see how they can say that when so many more people are practicing no safety precautions and are acting like there is no global pandemic going on.

    Behaviors matter.

    UF Health Jacksonville was the focus of NBC Nightly News. They have most COVID-19 patients since January.

    My friend who is at Jackson told me they are seeing increase in cases there and all unvaccinated.

    I think it’s about to get really bad again for the unvaxed. Nobody is distancing or masking anymore, everything is open and the variant is more contagious.

    Hospitalizations and ICU bed use by Covid patients has risen over 50% just since July 6th in North Carolina.....

    Guessing everyone running out and acting like the Global Pandemic was over really did drive a surge......go figure.

    So we're up to 40 Covid patients in our (medium sized) hospital now taking up 2 units and part of the ICU. I think I've mentioned that only a few weeks ago we were down to one patient. By and large the population is of un-vaccinated people with around 5-6 having been vaccinated and around the same number being considered severe cases. None of the severe cases involve vaccinated patients. The somewhat good news is that by and large the percentage of severe cases are much less than what they used to be at the peak last summer and fewer people have died. The bad news is that the patient population is much younger on average than during the peak with less co-morbidities. In essence, we're seeing younger and healthier people than before.

    Can you get COVID-19 even if you've been vaccinated?


    “That means it’s possible a person could be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 just before or just after vaccination and get sick,” the agency said. “This is because the vaccine has not had enough time to provide protection.”

    Nicole Iovine, an infectious disease expert and hospital chief epidemiologist at University of Florida Health, said it takes the average person 10 to 14 days to build up a protective number of antibodies, but each person is different. Any individual person may make an immune response faster or slower than average, she said.

    There is some evidence that vaccination may make illness less severe in people who get vaccinated but still get sick, according to the CDC. Some fully-vaccinated people may still be hospitalized and die, but fully-vaccinated people are much less likely to do either than people with similar risk factors who are not vaccinated.

    How many people have gotten COVID after being vaccinated?
    As of July 12, the CDC reported 5,492 breakthrough cases of COVID-19 that led to severe disease in the United States, out of 159 million fully-vaccinated Americans. That's about a 0.003% breakthrough rate.

    Of that number, 1,063 fully-vaccinated people have died of COVID.

    These figures are almost certainly underreported, however, as the CDC relies on public and voluntary reporting, which may not be complete.

    96 Percent of People Who Get COVID Again Have This in Common (bestlifeonline.com)

    A new study preprinted June 13 on medRxiv looks at the characteristics of COVID patients who have tested positive for the virus more than once. Researchers pulled clinical and testing data for 23 patients from a large U.S. electronic health record database. The patients had positive test results at least 60 days apart and separated by at least two consecutive negative test results—making it clear that these were reinfection cases, not cases in which people had prolonged COVID infections.

    According to the study, 96 percent of these reinfected patients had two or more comorbidities, which is the simultaneous presence of diseases or medical conditions within a patient. In this study, 70 percent of the patients had hypertension, 26 percent had cardiovascular disease, atrial fibrillation, or chronic kidney disease, and 22 percent had type 2 diabetes or a history of venous thromboembolism or long-term anticoagulation. These are all considered risk factors for COVID by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

    "Based on what we know from similar viruses, some reinfections are expected. We are still learning more about COVID-19," the CDC said in a statement on its website. However, the agency added that while cases of COVID reinfection have been reported, they "remain rare."

    My wife had an aquantence who was in her late 30's that just died from covid.
    She also has a friend who's daughter in law is in the hospital on oxygen and not expected to make it out. She is 39.

    Delta variant now makes up 83% of cases, CDC director says (msn.com)

    Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky told lawmakers Tuesday the delta variant now makes up 83% of cases, up from 50% at the beginning of this month.

    "CDC has released estimates of variants across the country and predicted the delta variant now represents 83% of sequenced cases. This is a dramatic increase from -- up from 50% for the week of July 3rd," Walensky testified in a hearing before the Senate Health Committee.

    Walensky said the alarming increase was happening in unvaccinated areas and that they were "allowing for the emergence and rapid spread of the highly transmissible Delta variant."

    "In some parts of the country, the percentage is even higher, particularly in areas of low vaccination rates," she said.
