I hate playing the Islanders and Trotz. His system is just the Lightning’s cryptonite. Difference being he doesn’t have an Ovechkin in New York like he did in Washington.
Whew! My mom is Canadian by birth and she grew up a Habs fan. She is a hundred percent lightning now, but she will be happy if it can’t be the lightning that’s it’s Montreal. Im sure all my relatives back in Canada are rooting for Montreal. 1993 is the last time a Canadian team won it I think. So the whole country will be behind them. Literally.
I'm looking forward to the final, I have no predictions as I didn't expect the Habs to make the play offs and here we are in the final, the Bolts are probably too strong offensively for Montreal despite the hottest goalie in the league, they should win this but its hard to not think the Habs have a chance the way they have dispatched higher ranked teams so far! I look forward to some good banter with fellow Gator fans!
Ok...I'm alive. It took me this long to have the energy to type How great is it that after all the terrible officiating that we get ZERO PP's and score a shorty on their power play! ...and just for irony, it was a crosscheck.
I grew up in a Mtl suburb (Beaconsfield) and I've been a Habs fan since I was 6 years old, when I started playing myself. Of course I got to experience one of the most glorious periods in History (Stanley Cups in '65, '66, '68, '69, '71, '73, '76, '77, '78, '79). Would have never thought that we would only win 2 more cups after then, in '86 and in '93. And that subsequently Mtl would not even get to a final round for nearly 3 decades! I have been living in Florida since '88 and the Bolts are my second favorite team so I am really going to enjoy this series and while I want my childhood favorite team to win, a Lightning win is the second best outcome!
Great physical game by the Lightning. Looking forward to the all time "Alabama" of hockey match-up. Can't believe the Habs of been mediocre for so long.
I'm in Southern Ontario, Leaf country but have been a Habs fan since 67, I could never support the Leafs and the Habs were the only other Canadian team, the new NHL and their quest for parity have killed any chance of dynasties although Tampa I guess would be close to one with a win in this series! I went to a Lightning game in their first season while vacationing in Florida, they were playing at the Fairgrounds, I have a soft spot for the team but of course I am hoping Montreal wins the Cup!
i went to a game in that first season as well. At the time we had the mysterious Japanese Ownership, folks thought the team would be gone in a year or two, Enrico Ciccone was the enforcer in those early years, and amazingly, Tampa had a (semi) home town kid in Adam Creighton. His dad played in the NHL but after he retired he moved to Tampa, he owned the Northdale country club. Went to high school with his sister. But I went back to the fairgrounds for a graduation a couple of years ago and couldn’t believe that was an NHL site, even for a year. Also saw a game or two at the thunder dome. That was actually kind of fun and long term was great for the franchise, with the large capacity there it was a great way to offer cheap tickets to a lot of people and build the fan base which is now in the top third or better of the nhl.
What the bolts have done to season ticket holders for post season is beyond infuriating. Our 12 seat block got 6 playoff tix per game. When capacity was limited, that was fine. Now that capacity is 75% plus, it is a money grab as the tix are priced well above face value.
Was that due to people with only one or two seats getting six also? I saw that complaint floating around.
Can't hate the habs. Class team, class org... Nothing but respect. (So some of the pleasure of the suffering of the opposing team, won't be there). But the Lightning are just ridiculous, and with Vasi in the net, Kuch dishing, Stammer and Point to dish to.... they just seem like prohibitive favorites. Tampa Bay sports is experiencing an unbelievable confluence of talent from the bolts to the rays (incredibly talented, young, and fun team--WS beyond plausible...), and of course, the GOAT led bucs and their Lombardi... Damn near an embarrassment of riches...(pardon the random boast...).
I agree with you and which is why I plead that Tampa Bay might not begrudge Montreal Lord Stanley's cup too much. You did just win it and you won the Lombardi this year as well with good chance of winning the World Series. Montreal has won nothing recently, and after having the best team in baseball back in 94 I think it was, the season and the playoffs got cancelled. Shortly thereafter the Expos moved to Washington. Montreal would really like to have their cup back that they used to own, just for a year! LOL!
