Johns Hopkins and University of Maryland Medical System will also require covid vaccine shots as a condition of employment

Many private employers are struggling with what to do with current employees, but they are moving quickly to make proof of vaccination a requirement for new hires.

Misleading article title. The workers are suspended 2 weeks without pay. However, if they are vaccinated during that 2 week period, they may return to their jobs. Rather than do that, ~ 126 workers have filed a law suit against the medical system. Texas has enough wing-nut judges that the hospital may lose this law suit, but I support them taking this stand.

Almost like there’s a correlation there, isn’t it? Maybe even causation?

This is true, of course. I had posted a few days ago that for over a month now no one who came onto the Covid floor where I work had had a vax. That changed last Friday but that person is having mild symptoms that are under control. If you get the vax you stand a virtually zero chance of dying of Covid or even being hospitalized for it.

    Get the damn vax. o_O

At this point, unless a new variant throws a major curveball, options are, get some level of immunity through the vaccine. Get some level of immunity through contracting COVID. Or hope enough people get COVID and/or the vaccine to the point we reach herd immunity. Given the fact that if you are waiting for others to act, they may never, and we may not reach herd immunity any time soon, and this leaves you vulnerable to contracting COVID, getting the vaccine is your best bet.

New study of 2 million COVID survivors showed 23% of them had at least one symptom that required a doctor's visit at least 30 days after recover. These "long haul" symptoms included shortness of breath, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, fatigue, and others. Patients exhibiting long haul symptoms ranged from all ages, and there was no correlation between how hard COVID hit and the potential for long haul symptoms. I.e, an asymptomatic person had an equal chance to develop a long haul symptom or symptoms as one who needed hospital care.

All the more reason to get the vaccine. If your choices are immunity through vaccine, immunity through getting COVID, or hoping for eventual herd immunity, the vaccine is your best, safest bet.

Well, to defend the poster, he was worried about the UK variant, then the South African variant, the Brazilian variant and now the Indian variant. At least he's consistent.

The next variant is the Mexican variant. Again, if you don't understand virology mutation and the creation of variants, don't joke and laugh about it. I suggest a microbiology course at your local CC, or pick up a textbook. Viruses copy themselves. These copies will contain errors, known as mutations. If a mutation is beneficial to the virus, a new variant may arise.

So far, most of the variants mutations have been similar. The advantage has been either the virus can copy faster and/or bind onto human cells stronger. But what's stopping the next mutation from being having significant vaccine resistance? The answer is certainly not ignorance and laughter.
