I am always looking for movie recommendations, especially lesser-known films that make you laugh or feel something. "Withnail and I" was recently mentioned, which I had never heard of and have started watching, but not finished yet, as it has been less than interesting...so looking for recommendations...thanks in advance!

Here are a couple from me....

    - Thought-provoking - Captain Fantastic
    - Laughs - Fear of a Black Hat
    - Feels - The Fault in Our Stars

I see too many movies. I'll limit this to what I've see this year.

    Must See:

I'm Thinking of Ending Things (thought proving)
    The Wolf House (Artistic)
Train to Buson (Zombies done right)
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (twisted western)
    Beanpole (bleak)

    Worth Watching:

    Lake Eden (Suspense)
    The Endless (low budget decent)
    Goodtime (train wreck)
    Come True (80's/90's synth retro)
Spontaneous (creative) *This is a covert anti-woke film*
    Mandy (twisted fun)
    Creep 2 (horror comedy)
Under the Skin (better than expected)
The Void (C grade Cosmic Horror)
    Calibre (moral quandary)

Romantic sci fi...will make you think and feel, but not that much.

    the one that I love
    About time
    Safety Not Guaranteed
-all on Netflix last time I checked.

I liked SNG & I cried at the ending of About Time - possibly the sweetest time travel movie

I love Withnail and I, so maybe I’m not the right person.

But I do have a movie that no one knows that is unique, hilarious, and amazing: Castaway on the Moon. It is South Korean, so you have to be ok with subtitles.

Alternatively, I guess I must mention the movie in my avatar: Bottle Rocket. It’s Wes Anderson’s first movie, and the acting debut of his friends Owen and Luke Wilson. Hilarious also.

Bluke, I had no idea that we were movie buddies. On the theme of sci-Fi Rom coms:

Palm Springs is pretty awesome. Only on Hulu I think.

The infinite man is also worthwhile in that genre. Low budget Australian film.

Action movies on Netflix I didn’t hate:

Shot Caller (decent and worth finishing)

Blue Ruin ( slow burn, cool revenge movie that makes sense)

The guest (another okay movie worth the finish)

Best low budget (and lowest budget!) sci fi is Primer, IMO.

The same people that made the endless helped to make a unique movie set in Florida called “After Midnight”. I loved that one too.

Loved Captain Fantastic, which I swear was inspired at least in part by JT's "Enough to be on Your Way" from Hourglass

I loved Blue Ruin. The same guy made one I like even more called Green Room. It was on Amazon Prime.

I definitely wept at conclusion of About Time, but thought it was mostly a feel good flick.
