The family tried for 2 years to get the body cam footage released. The only reason why its out now is because someone slipped to an AP reporter without permission. Now what the video shows is the subject of a civil rights investigation. Louisiana police are pissed off about the Unauthorized release of the video.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Louisiana state troopers were captured on body camera video stunning, punching and dragging a Black man as he apologized for leading them on a high-speed chase -- footage of the man’s last moments alive that The Associated Press obtained after authorities refused to release it for two years.

“I’m your brother! I’m scared! I’m scared!” Ronald Greene can be heard telling the white troopers as the unarmed man is jolted repeatedly with a stun gun before he even gets out of his car along a dark, rural road.

The 2019 arrest outside Monroe, Louisiana, is the subject of a federal civil rights investigation. But unlike other in-custody deaths across the nation where body camera video was released almost immediately, Greene’s case has been shrouded in secrecy and accusations of a cover-up.

Louisiana officials have rebuffed repeated calls to release footage and details about what caused the 49-year-old’s death. Troopers initially told Greene’s family he died on impact after crashing into a tree during the chase. Later, State Police released a one-page statement acknowledging only that Greene struggled with troopers and died on his way to the hospital.

We need to pass laws to prohibit authorities from refusing to disclose body cam videos showing serious injuries or deaths when they aren't prosecuting the police officers involved.

More outrageous than what Chauvin did. If those cops - from the perps to.those who covered it up - don't go to prison, it will be a travesty.

I wonder if anyone - dad? - will excuse it because the guy didn't stop.

Poor guy said "I'm your brother." Poor naive soul really thought those evil scumbags gave a damn about his life. May he rest in peace and may the officers involved suffer the harshest punishment.

If you are dumb enough to lead the police on an extended high speed chase endangering the lives of hundreds of innocent people just maybe you need to be beaten.

I would also fire any trooper in that department who viewed any of the BWC footage and didn't immediately turn it over to their internal affairs division.

Why is it always conservatives that are the ones condoning police violence, or are on the side of the killer?

Some condone or don’t condone based solely on the skin tone of the victim.

I actually had sympathy for the other 3 police officers in the Chauvin case not named Chauvin, esp the guy who was a new trainee as well as the one who was doing crowd control (maybe they were the same guy, not sure). There were different degrees of culpability there, with Chauvin being like 99% of it. A couple of those guys were just unfortunate to be on the scene with a POS like Chauvin.

In this case, they all participated and then lied because they knew they were in the wrong. So you have a crime, and then an active coverup where they furthered the criminality. Sounds like the LA state pd needs to hand out a whole bunch of pink slips, and a decent # of them need to be charged criminally. Everyone that straight up lied about the facts committed an obstruction of justice, so you have people maybe not even in the violent attack committing a crime to cover up the incident. Quite a mess there...

Apparently the LA state police police don’t even believe that garbage logic because they hid the video for 2 years.

And if believe what you just posted then just maybe you don’t deserve the protection of a Constitution.

Seriously, WTF is wrong with you?

    What I was thinking.

He claims the guy found a way to endanger the lives of "hundreds of people" in Monroe, Louisiana?

    I'm not buying it either.

I was taught in the police academy to use the least amount of force necessary to subdue a bad guy. Then once secured (handcuffed) you stop with the physical force. It was difficult for me at times. Once I transported a guy to jail who about beat his wife to death. Then bragged about it on the way to jail. He even told me when he got out he was going to kill her next time. I put everything he said into my report. I can’t tell you how difficult it was for me not to stop the car and kick his ass. Under those type of conditions you have to stop with the physical force or face disciplinary action up to firing or criminal prosecution.

That man didn’t deserve to be treated that way.

Refusing to release the video is evidence that they knew they were wrong and it will be difficult to explain why. At least to me.
