Geez Davis. How so? "BS" requires intent.

Maybe we are just reading this differently? How about lets go there before calling my post intentionally misleading?

Did the poster I quoted not single our more than half the country? Is it just the number you take issue with? I have no idea what the actual number of people concerned about the vaccine is. I do know at the moment far fewer than 1/2 have gotten it and it is readily available.

I am simply saying whatever that (seemingly high) number is, some here have been way over the top with harsh words.

If I concede that I do not know the exact math would we then agree on the important fact of how terrible it is to wish harm on the large segment of people that disagree with you or fear the vaccine? (regardless of their reasoning)

The JAMA disagrees with your layman diagnosis. As of September, 2020, the COVID long haulers Facebook page had over 8,000 members. And while Italy saw the average long hauler patient was 40 years old, there were a few 80+, and most long haulers were young, healthy, and didn't require hospitalization during initial infection.

We don't know the long term effects of COVID-19. If school lockdowns saved tens of thousands from being infected, it saved thousands from being a long hauler. Not to mention, lives.

So no, school lockdowns were not a mistake. Especially considering the absolute lack of knowledge we had regarding COVID last year. Long haulers weren't a thing when schools locked down, because we didn't know it could happen!

The vaccine is our best bet. Want schools open? Get everyone vaccinated. Reach herd immunity and the danger of catching COVID goes down to close to zero.

Oh boy . . . you're really trying to stretch this one Tilly. No - that is not by definition calling out more than half the country. I'd explain it, but you know why and we can stop quibbling about this.

Then you probably should not have argued the point. Of course, the number is what made the claim substantial and what gave me pause. If you jump into a conversation making claims to contradict, but you have no actual evidence to support your argument, ya just might be accused of BSing. ;) Like I mentioned in the other post, though, we can stop quibbling about this.

So because there is a Facebook group with 8k members means it's true? Did you read what you posted? JAMA doesn't state "long covid" is real, only that they are doing a study on it. So let's wait before saying JAMA disagrees with me. Anyone advocating kids to be vaccinated at this time are is as ill informed as those adults who are anti-covid vaxxers.

The JAMA article was from Sept, 2020. This article from last month from the U. of Minnesota states there needs to be b dedicated clinics to study long haulers. But hey, some random guy in an Internet board knows best, right!

As for vaccines and children, there have been trials for kids 12-16 on going for several months. They are now starting trials for even younger children. I wouldn't sign my kid up for a trial, but the vaccine trials for kids 12-15 are going well, and original Pfizer trials were done with kids 16 and up. And all trials have shown the vaccine to be safe.

If you wait to vaccinate, the reality is, you are prolonging the pandemic. Your choice. But one I personally find selfish.

Of course the trials are going great, do you really think they'd publicize that the trials are going poorly? And it says a lot that you wouldn't sign your kids up for a trial. That means you don't really mean you want everyone vaccinated at this point. Me and thousands of parents won't get their kids vaccinated until there is a lot of data. And a few months of trial data doesn't cut it. There is a reason the FDA approval process can take years. Safety first. Others will have to deal with the fact kids won't be vaccinated in great numbers.

Yes. If the trials weren't going well, they'd publicize it. And certainly wouldn't consider lowering the age to 12. If things weren't going well, and vaccines were given anyway, it opens up lawsuits that could potentially destroy Pfizer as a company completely. We are talking billions in settlements, government fines, and a complete lack of all public trust in the future.

Yeah, so we gave blanket immunity if shit hits the fan as a result of the vaccines. So the drug companies have zero risk and all reward.

I think anyone over 25 for sure should be strongly encouraged to get the vaccine based on risk numbers available by the CDC. Everyone under 25 that should make their own choice whether to get it or not. Be prepared to see the lib states requiring kids to get vaccinated for school while the pub states won't. This will set off a huge issue for sure. Just like you wouldn't put your kids in a trial, neither would I. That is beyond nuts in my view, but I guess everyone has choices to make.

If Pfizer or another vaccine company hides critical information on vaccines trials, on purpose, and later, kids have serious complications that the pharma company knew would happen, blanket immunity could be revoked. Part of these agreements is open information sharing. And again, if say Pfizer purposely hides test results, and thousands of kids die because of the vaccine, the lack of public trust alone could kill the company.

People should get the vaccine because it offers the highest chance you will be safe from COVID. Not 100% safe, but better than anything else out there.

You should also get vaccinated because it's our best chance to getting back to normal. Herd immunity means the chance of anyone getting COVID drops close 0%. It means the end of masks, no more long haul sufferers, and no more deaths.

If you wait to get vaccinated, you are being selfish and prolonging the pandemic. It's the same selfish reason people often don't get a flu vaccine. The flu won't be too bad for them, so why get vaccinated? The answer is, you could be the vector that infected someone who will have complications. But if you're vaccinated, you have the potential to stop the virus before you get sick and infect others. It's how herd immunity works.

Waiting to get vaccinated for kids isn't being selfish. And even though I don't agree with adults not getting vaccinated personally it's not selfish. There are long term issues that we have no idea about. It's a valid concern for say a 21 year old that is at almost zero risk from covid. It's their risk if they get covid. IF the vaccines are 95% effective, then the vast majority of those vaccinated are safe and then this will be over very quickly.

Breakthrough cases happen. Over 5,800 reported through April 15. This number will only rise. It will mean more people getting COVID, more long haulers, and more people dying. Almost all preventable, if, and only if we reach herd immunity.

It's not about COVIDV not being a major threat for those 25 or younger. It's about reaching herd immunity so COVID isn't a major threat for all of us.

5,800 isn't a lot of cases for when you consider the US has 77 million vaccinated. So I stand by my statement. You can continue to think that's bad, but it's not.

5,800 > 0. How many of these 5,800 infected others who have not been vaccinated yet? And how many of those infected others because we don't have herd immunity yet?

And this is 5,800 with still less than half of the adult population vaccinated. I stand by my statement that those who refuse to get vaccinated are selfish and prolonging the pandemic.

Alright, lets do some math on the numbers the CDC is throwing out here for giggles. 5,800 divided by 77,000,000 is 0.000075. You know what, those are some pretty solid odds that I won't get covid. These are the facts that you presented.

And let's do the math if we're at herd immunity. And those 5800 people don't run into anyone with COVID, because we have herd immunity. Again, 5800 > 0.

People wanting Zero covid are just as ill-informed as those who are adults and don't get the vaccine.
