CDC, FDA recommend ‘pause’ for Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine to investigate reports of blood clots
Kids in classrooms would technically need that same herd immunity threshold of ~80% to stop the spread of the virus. Such a threshold might be years away if kids aren’t vaccinated. The question with kids is more do with if they absolutely need the vaccine induced herd immunity vs. simply let it (the virus) continue to run its course in that age group. Whether it even makes sense is still being studied, since most of the vaccines don’t even have emergency use yet for kids (unless i missed it).
I can understand your frustration and sadness given your situation. Out of respect I'll leave it at that.
This is exactly what some of us have alluded to. Trying to explain the difference in EUA and full approval to people who don't care to listen and suggest it should be forced upon millions of people(particularly kids) because they think it's "proven safe" FULL STOP...
More women get blood clots from birth control pills. I suspect that’s a commonality between these six out of a million women.
And, again, there is always a balance in either form of approval between harm and benefit. The existence of two other vaccines shifts that balance somewhat in this case. Either type of approval has the same cost/benefit analysis attached. This has nothing to do with the type of approval. The thresholds to meeting the cost/benefit analysis are not different for EUA compared to standard approval processes. The only real difference here is that EUA only is engaged in high benefit scenarios, allowing for more risk. But if you have a high benefit scenario in a standard approval process as well, it allows more risk in the same fashion.
Same age group? Asking because I don’t know. I do know that blood clots are a side effect of birth control pills and it’s exacerbated by smoking and obesity. There have been more deaths from gender reveals than from this vaccine. Having said that, they certainly need to check it out.
The next huge issue will be when states try to mandate kids get vaccinated to go back to school. That will be where a large percentage of parents will say no to a vaccine that we frankly don’t know much about at this point that doesn’t affect kids much If at all. Anyone arguing otherwise is just as wrong as the people in their 40’s and up refusing to get vaccinated.
Yes. Same demographic affected in the Astra Zeneca group. 86 confirmed cases out of 25 million vaccinated.
Moderna to work with 20 universities on large study to confirm vaccine not only prevents severe disease, but also prevents transmission of the virus. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/04/12/when-will-it-be-safe-to-stop-using-masks/
Anti-body persistence 6 months following the second dose confirmed for those receiving the Moderna vaccine. These data are expected and in-line with data already reported from Pfizer on their mRNA vaccine performance. The on-going Phase 3 data continue to show efficacy of 94% in preventing disease 6 months after the second shot as well. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2103916
That wasn't getting a shot in man. That was stopping a discussion out of respect for his personal feelings.
