Actually I thought it was serious news, not funny. Although looking at the schematic, I guess it is amusing. But this is a major water passage.
Oh jeez. I can imagine the problems that's going to cause. Anything from the Mediterranean will be unable to get to the Indian Ocean unless it goes around Africa and vice versa. That would be like if the Panama Canal was blocked for us.
It also struck me that someone needs to put some naval assets south of there, as that’s prime piracy areas, and the other ships are together, they can’t move. I’m not sure who should take that responsibility, and maybe with all the ships stuck together it’s the equivalent of some kind of convoy immunity, although you have to have at least some escorts. just a thought
Yeah, that's all kinds of messy. I was thinking of checking out the Jerusalem Post to see what they're saying about it. EDIT: Suez Canal blocked by large container ship - photos
Advance planning for a major military move by someone, Iran maybe? Keep US and Europe countries for bringing forces quickly to the Middle East?
As of Saturday, we’ll have either Godzilla or Kong who can move the ship. I know both usually stick to the Pacific or NYC, so it may take awhile, but either would be far more effective than a bunch of tugs
I agree it could be. One has to wonder how the Captain managed to do that. But then again I think I had read somewhere that captains of the ships are not allowed to navigate the ship through the canal and navigation is done by Canal personnel.
Bad news, looks like that shipment of hotpants and speedos I ordered with my stimulus is going to be late for spring break.
In all seriousness, I would not be surprised to see some price spikes from the severe supply disruption
I guess those maximum length restrictions were there for a reason. Even though it has made it before.
