OK - pro football players on TV. I've been watching "Centennial", the late 70's mini-series on Sunday mornings on INSP (cable). Hans Brumbaugh is played by Alex Karras. One of the good guys in the story! Of course he was in a LOT of TV shows and movies.....a LOT!
Back on topic...... Does anyone remember the frozen potatoes you could buy that featured two elongated paper "boats" with either butter or cheese flavored mashed potatoes? I can't remember what they were called but I loved those things! You'd microwave them - very quick and easy!
I was at Walmart tonight picking up provisions for Mom. In the frozen food/veggie section some guy came up and started grabbing by the handful a combo product and throwing them into his cart. I was standing there looking at the selection in one cabinet and he just came right up to the one next to me and started in! In his fervor....he dropped a few and one actually fell on the floor. Then he pulled out the empty tray to get at the tray behind it and stuffed the empty tray in front of a different variety. Then he threw some more into his cart. Before leaving he picked up the bag that fell on the floor and threw it in the cabinet. It landed on the bottom area. I should have said something like "Nice work there, buster." - but elected to let it go. I know it's Walmart and to some degree to be expected but it still amazes me how crude some people can be. I took the empty tray out and also the bag that fell on the floor and gave them to an associate before checking out. =========== Then, on the way out I see an associate standing there whom I know - and he, me. He's usually stocking in the back when we see each other. I think he Pakistani in heritage. Anyway I say to him "Thank you - have a great night - be safe!" He replies the same back to me. Then I turn and say "Tom Brady - the GOAT!" while making a throwing motion with my right arm. He yells back "I know!"
Bazza you’re on a roll. Don’t know where to begin! I guess Merlin Olsen played about the same time as Mongo but I think he became a tv star slightly earlier. Karras did star in a successful sitcom in the early/mid 70s. There was a pretty good wr named Bernie Casey who starred in several good productions in the mid-70’s. College, not pro, Mark Harmon has to be the winner (NCIS) starting qb at UCLA, father won the Heisman. Non-football, the Rifleman, Chuck Conner, played in both MLB and NBA (Dodgers and Celtics!) So, what what was so enticing at Walmart for that guy? Does it go with longnecks, chilled wine or margaritas?
Well, Ms. Jan’s 9-bean ham soup was sooo good last night (and it’s a big pot) we’re gladly gonna be doing left over soup again tonight as it’s still rainy/cloudy/cool. The back porch remains stocked with ice cold longnecks and chilled wine so we are good to go. Life is good in Gator Nation!
Not cooking tonight. We are going to see friends (socially distanced, of course) and eating take-out from El Indio (a local fast food Mexican food place). A big step up from Taco Bell, but not as good as La Tienda.
Lurk, do y’all have a Pepper’s Mexican Cantina restaurant there in Gainesville? There is one over in Tallahassee that’s well above average. (If for no other reason they serve a 32 oz. draft in a frozen glass beer mug).... Of course COVID has made dining out a non-issue for us anyway.
As we continue to ride the sloppy weather out I’m continually glad (since Hurricane Michael) that our enlarged back porch is well covered and gives us the option of grilling or smoking our meals when we want, even in rainy weather. Tonight I’ll be grilling chicken halves seasoned with coarse black pepper and Everglades seasoning. Ahh, yes—Pat’s Homade on the last two turns. We picked up a mess of fresh green beans and new potatoes and fresh bi-color cob corn today from our fresh vegetable stand for our sides. The back porch adult refreshments have been restocked and re-iced and are ready for the afternoon/evening. Life is good in Gator Nation!
[QUOTE="74nole, post: 12319420, member: 5804" We picked up a mess of fresh green beans.OTE] "We picked up a mess of". Convincing proof that 74Nole is Suthn.
Pats Homade back in Publix, eh? Didn't realize you were getting that much rain up there, Bill. Of course my fav. radar site (WU) had been down a couple days. I see it's working again tonight. We were supposed to get rain yesterday and poof it was gone! But I see it in the forecast again for late tomorrow and Fri. I'm planning on driving to Orlando Friday to pick up some new palms. Just my my personal use. New stuff I don't have. 13 different species! We'll see what the weather picture is like. Tonight I had a big steaming hot bowl of chicken veggie soup from the last batch I made. Oh boy that was good! I'm making another batch on Saturday. Will give some to my buddy Marty since what he made was so good!
