That's the thing that happens when emotional outcomes are not driving the analysis. Sometimes, the emotional outcomes related to the analysis change.

limiting the severity of the disease doesn't help limit spread to reduce variants though. it may even produce more asymptomatic carriers

Nice touch of bipartisanship and unity

Among the rancor, pleased to see Andy Slavitt, now in government again, give credit were due to states that are doing a great job in getting their citizens vaccinated. You will note that most of the states given credit would be considered "red states". But thankfully the administration sees them as states within the United States and gives credit where due

Florida is currently at 7.5% of the population receiving 1 or 2 doses. All the counties & private hospitals are holding vaccines for the 2nd dose. I suspect in a few weeks all of the 7.5% would have received their 2nd dose. The last few days, 65+ are approx 15% of the new cases and 85% of the deaths. J&J vaccine would be a great addition for younger people 18+ due to single dose and easy storage. IMO, hopefully by summer we will be able to get the virus somewhat under control as far as fatalities and serious illness is concerned. I suspect that the virus will be around for years, and many will need booster shots on an annual basis. Just my opinion.

I got my 2nd dose Wednesday.. My wife and I had a 12:50 and 1PM time. We arrived a half hour early and they took us immediately. They had planned to schedule 1st doses for the morning, and scheduled 2nd doses for the afternoon. Due to lack of additional supply, the 1st dose appointments have been on hold for a few weeks. My understanding is anyone who had an appointment received their shot, the new appointments for first doses were the ones suspended.

I’m hopeful once the vaccinations get up and really going (thank you President Biden) we’ll see them rolled out faster than expected.

funny, hospitalizations are at the lowest level in 2 months, daily tests are up, daily positives down, you think the media would be happy to report that, but no, its how long it takes to get vacinated and the new strain, good news would kill them i guess.

To the long list of things you seem to struggle to understand, I think we should add the difference between local mins/maxes vs. global mins/maxes. that, & premature echompulation. Oh, & how the news bidness works. Of all the serious screw ups & the hundreds of thousands of dead Americans, you whine about the media. SHAME!

Congressman Stephen Lynch tests positive for COVID-19 after receiving second dose of vaccine - CBS News
Congressman Stephen Lynch, a Democrat from Massachusetts, tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine earlier this month. Lynch is one of several members of Congress who have tested positive for the virus in recent weeks.
A spokesperson for Lynch said in a statement that his positive test result came after a staffer in his Boston office tested positive.

"Congressman Lynch had received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine and subsequently received a negative COVID-19 test prior to attending President Biden's Inauguration," said Molly Rose Tarpey, Lynch's communications director. "While Mr. Lynch remains asymptomatic and feels fine, he will self-quarantine and will vote by proxy in Congress during the coming week."

Another member of the Massachusetts House delegation, Congresswoman Lori Trahan, also tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

    Not good news

Eurosurveillance | Minimal transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from paediatric COVID-19 cases in primary schools, Norway, August to November 2020

Study after study that shows there isn’t a risk for kids to be in schools and still we have the teachers unions balking at coming back. Anyone who at this point wants schools closed to in person learning is a disgrace.

“Norwegian primary school study of C19 transmission: “minimal child-to-child (0.9%, 2/234) AND child-to-adult (1.7%, 1/58) transmission, supporting that under 14 year olds are not the drivers of SARS-CoV-2 transmission””.

Testing positive but with an asymptomatic case is still potentially a benefit of the vaccine.

I'd say yes and no. Keep in mind that none of the trials regularly tested everyone, they only tested symptomatic individuals. So all the efficacy numbers you're seeing are for symptomatic COVID (or worse, moderate to severe symptomatic COVID in the J&J vaccine's case).

We actually don't know the efficacy in preventing asymptomatic COVID for any vaccine at this point. For that matter we don't know the immunity against asymptomatic COVID in the previously infected group either. That's why the recommendation is for folks to continue to wear masks and practice social distancing even if they've gotten the vaccine or recovered from a confirmed infection.
