Work on a new tag line. My sons in school this semester. My decision last semester was based on the FACT that schools were the first things to close in March and stayed closed through the start of fall across the country. There was zero scientific explanation or data on schools to even base a decision on regardless of what you insist. So yeah, I took a cautious, wait and see approach and now my son is in person. If the best you’ve got to close a debate with me is, “yeah but schools” then I know you’ve got nothing. Thanks, TTYL!

    From the Novavax press release.....

A 60% efficacy even against the baseline strain would have met the FDA criterion for approval. Also, not to make a disparaging post concerning the people in S Africa at all, but I wonder about the effectiveness and accuracy of their health and medical records concerning their volunteer subjects? I think that this data should be seen as a positive and not spun as a negative as I have seen in some media outlets.

    Coronavirus Disease 2019

“While overdose deaths were already increasing in the months preceding the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the latest numbers suggest an acceleration of overdose deaths during the pandemic.”

News release: New report finds increase in 2020 overdose deaths

"Both 2019 and 2020 also saw an increase in deaths from the first quarter of the year (January to March) to the second quarter of the year (April to June), but the 30% increase from the first to second quarter in 2020 was greater than the 13% increase seen in 2019."

All the vaccines thus far have reported overall efficacy against COVID, this is the first time I've seen headlines highlighting efficacy against only "moderate to severe" COVID. This gives me some concern whether it meets the 50% overall efficacy threshold. With that said, it seems that it's highly effective in preventing hospitalizations and deaths like all other vaccines, similar to other vaccines, which is especially good news since it's been trialed against variants unlike the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

All good points. The value of J&J is in the easier logistical distribution.

As pointed out numerous times, your Swedish study didn’t test the kids. They didn’t actually collect data in their study. Also, I don’t live in Europe, i hear its lovely this time of year though.

As I pointed out numerous times, there are plenty of studies out there of countries in Europe opening schools with no increase in covid cases. You just choose not to read them or look for them. Google is this search engine that can help you research stuff before you try to throw some BS out there.

Back to school: how European classrooms are coping with COVID

Across Europe, children are returning to school – Here’s what it looks like

But hey, you keep fighting the awful fight to keep schools closed. Teacher's unions need to be told to get back to work or don't pay them. That will most likely do the trick. Play hardball.

Oh, I’m so sorry. You must have mistaken my post for asking for your research. Just to be clear, I didn’t.

A very important thread from the Dean of the Brown School of Public Health. Basically says that the longer certain countries let this run out of control, the more that it endangers the entire vaccine process, as it allows more opportunity for variants to develop that could get around the vaccines.

No. The official CDC number for 2019 is 2,854,838. I don't know where you are getting 2,900,689, but that is not the official number. The preliminary number for 2020 is now 3,297,212 (it is still rising as deaths from late in 2020 are still being compiled). As of right now, there were 442,374 more deaths in 2020 than there were in 2019.

Consult the CDC website to get the correct numbers.

I can't believe I am going to say this, but @dangolegators and @BigCypressGator1981 are actually giving me reason for hope. ;)

I don't think they were out to get Trump per se, but the pulling out and loss of support could surely make the quick change in numbers upon reentry questionable.

I lean towards the holiday theory, but lets not act like people at these levels are above such fooleshness.
