About half. Otherwise how do you explain the 300k excess deaths in the US this year(which is questionable since the CDC decided not to up the forecast of the usual 1.5-2% annually that the US usually has) when IF Covid is responsible for 400k+ where are the deaths that were went down? Besides car accidents, I'd love to hear what else went down. Because we know Dementia and Alzheimer's are up significantly. I'm sure Cancer deaths just magically went down...

Me too, for the 2nd dose too, a pretty sore arm and nothing else. My wife felt unwell for a night after the 2nd shot, but was fine the next morning. Several of my colleagues got fevers, headaches, muscle aches, and severe fatigue, mostly after the 2nd shot. As mentioned before, one colleague likely had a severe reaction with neurological issues.

I assume the "keep schools closed" crowd will come on here and say they were wrong...

There were more than 400k excess deaths this year. That's how you explain it.

My sister (ICU nurse) got her 2nd dose today. Her arm is very sore and she has general body aches. No other symptoms so far.

South african variant now confirmed in two unrelated people in South Carolina that were infected 3 weeks ago. That translates into community spread of the variant in SC 3 weeks ago

this variant has infected people that already had covid

vaccine efficacy of moderna, pfizer and novavax drops from 90% to 50% for this variant.

Novavax’s Vaccine Works Well — Except on Variant First Found in South Africa (msn.com)

The news was problematic for the United States, which hours earlier reported its first known cases of the contagious variant in two unrelated people in South Carolina. And it came just days after Moderna and Pfizer said that their vaccines were also less effective against the same variant.

Novavax, which makes one of six vaccine candidates supported by Operation Warp Speed last summer, has been running trials in Britain, South Africa, the United States and Mexico. It said Thursday that an early analysis of its 15,000-person trial in Britain revealed that the two-dose vaccine had an efficacy rate of nearly 90 percent there. But in a small trial in South Africa, the efficacy rate dropped to just under 50 percent.

Almost all the cases that scientists have analyzed there so far were caused by the variant, known as B.1.351. The data also showed that many trial participants were infected with the variant even after they had already had Covid. “We have the first trial — we are the first to conduct an efficacy trial — in the face of a changing virus,” said Stanley Erck, the president and chief executive of Novavax. He said that researchers expected the variants could change the trial results, but “the amount of change has been a bit of a surprise to everyone.”

The South Africa trial was relatively small — with just 4,400 volunteers — and was not designed to come up with a precise estimate of how much protection the vaccine provides. Still, the results were striking enough that the company said it would soon begin testing a new vaccine tailored to protect against the variant from South Africa. “You’re going to have to make new vaccines,” Mr. Erck said.

Lol. No there isn’t. Only if you think all of a sudden the death in 2020 was going to miraculously drop from 2019. Keep buying that BS. Just like you were woefully wrong on schools being open. Probably better for you to sit this one out. The in person school fiasco was unfortunately politicized. And you bought in like a lemming.

Well sure, if you don't round off 60K deaths. But it is, of course, standard to just round off 60K deaths (on one end of the equation).

It isn’t more deaths total from COVID. It is more deaths attributed to nursing homes. The Reasons In the report range from not counting some patients who were infected on the nursing homes but didn’t die there etc. New York had a mess when this started with its hospital shortages; there are a lot of hospitals in the City, but not enough for the population there in general, for various reasons. But the lack of transparency is disgusting.

No. CDC currently counts 3,290,868 deaths in 2020. That might rise a little as more info comes in from December. There were 2,854,838 deaths in 2019. Add 30k or so to that for what would have been expected in 2020 if we didn't have covid and you're at about 400k excess deaths for 2020. So get your numbers straight. There were 400k excess deaths in 2020.

No, those are the CDC numbers. 3,290,868 deaths in 2020, 2,854,838 deaths in 2019. 436,030 more people died in 2020 than in 2019. So you need to change your number from 300k excess deaths to 400k excess deaths. Not sure what that will do to your theory that only around 200k died from covid. I'm sure you'll come up with something though.

There's news that a Brazilian variant has similar ability to evade vaccines and is already causing a massive upsurge in places in Brazil that had a 76% infection rate and should theoretically have close to herd immunity now.

So now we are using a number that hasn’t been official as the number for 2019 and for 2020? And I see you building in an increase for each year that has occurred the last 5 years. Good job on the deceit. I know you want to make it worse than it is but you are embarrassing yourself. Stop listening to whatever the media tells you. Here is the deaths the last 5 years(2019 isn’t confirmed by the cdc yet) These are: 2015 (2,712,630), 2016 (2,744,248), 2017 (2,813,503), 2018 (2,839,205), 2019 (2,900,689). So when you are using a number that isn’t official I guess it’s cool to not let people know that and try to fudge some extra deaths in there. Good try. And 2020 isn’t tallied as well. But hey, I have a solution, let’s just label every death in 2020 Covid. That way you can justify schools being shut down. Still waiting for you to acknowledge you were wrong on wanting to keep schools closed. I’m sure that’s coming any day now...

You just outlined in detail your entire stance on suicide deaths. Your hypocrisy here is incredible. Year over year suicide rates have been increasing for years. Year end numbers for suicide deaths are estimated and not 100% accurate. You try and label all suicides a result of lockdowns even though lockdowns have been lifted in most areas for months and suicide is a product of mental health. Many of those deaths likely would have happened with or without a global pandemic yet you bring every article mentioning suicide deaths to this Covid thread. You should either delete this post or never mention suicide deaths related to Covid again. You’ll likely do neither, but we all know what should happen.

Yes, I have said Suicide deaths will go up, but I also say we won’t know for sure for a year. That’s the distinction. Also, we will have enormous uptick in overdose deaths. What I am 100% certain of is that there are 400+ Thousand deaths from Covid. The math simply doesn’t work. It’s not like cancer deaths started going down by not going to the doctor or heart disease stopped killing people. Just like you guys were so wrong on schools, you are just as wrong on believing the “Covid deaths” numbers. But hey, you guys and the teachers unions are the only people actually fighting science on schools opening. You should be proud of that...
