I mentioned a week or so ago that my brother had contracted COVID. I was with him in his truck the day before symptoms started, at least we were both wearing masks. He was feeling pretty bad and got the antibody treatment, BAM, I think they call it. He started feeling better the next day and will be able to go back to work tomorrow. I did the test as well and it came back as negative for me. My sister in law was also positive with only minor symptoms and never has felt really bad.

Haven't been here much, too. But, some. I read the entire thread on the insurrection at the House yesterday.

Open all schools now. Hopefully our leaders learn to follow science, but I don't think that will happen.

My grandma is scheduled to get her first shot next Tuesday. I'm so happy for her. She had been extremely depressed having to isolate.

Our HS was open for 6 days (about 70% went in, 30% stayed virtual). They just closed the school this morning, ran out of teachers.

I'm not sure what to make of this. Is he making a political argument that positive covid counts are inflated? Or providing scientific insight into positives that may not be infectious? What do you think?

In light of the false negative rates of PCR testing, it seems to be in the public health interest to push amplification to its limits. I think the benefits of minimizing false negatives seem to greatly outweigh the cost of "non infected" positives when it comes to stopping disease spread.

That is a pretty standard Statistics question. What are Type I and Type II errors in this situation? Which would be more of a problem?

Absolute nonsense. You should reread like 99% of your past posts. I think 95 is fighting fire with Fire. I could be wrong.

My take away is that there should be a standard cycle threshold so we can compare apples to apples. Fouci weighed in on this early on.

    Thanks.

Seems like standardization of the Ct value is problematic due to differences in tests. And even if standardized, there is no consensus on how it can help doctors in handling patients. A standard could help in reporting "infectious positives" for Rt measures and contact tracing (e.g. < 35 Ct positive category).

    I found this article enlightening...
