Transfer Portal Thread (Other Schools)

Goods was hobbled early in the year and so wasn’t playing. But rumors abound he was leaving. Though supposedly was on the sideline at sec title game.

Humphries played at A&M and a few more games. Didn’t play later in the year. Don’t know why.

 

Probably wasted 2 DT slots for ‘19/‘20 recruiting classes, already thin to begin with.

Nah, attrition happens... On the bright side, our staff is good in the portal and it opens things up for the 2022 class.

 

Am I right in thinking that the kids in the portal can be replaced (as a number) without impacting the count for kids coming in every year?

I have never fully understood the "counters" thing either...and now this pandemic situation with not counting a year throws even more confusion into it.

 

No, the count is impacted. Although rumors of changes possibly coming due to covid

 

This. As it stands now there are two limitations. One is the traditional 85 roster max....that will likely get expanded to include any returning seniors that take advantage of an extra year. With expected departures UF shouldn't have to worry about the 85 limit. For now I'm not even looking at that.
Each year a school gets 25 initial counters....those are new players that enter your program and receive financial aid. That would include transfers in from the portal, and high school signees. If you don't use all 25 one year you can carry them over to the next year. By most people's count we have 27 (maybe 28) to use this year. Signed 21 in December, Bowman and Shelton should put us at 23. My guess is we try and bring in another couple of transfers now and maybe save a couple for late spring/summer.
Saving slots for the portal are abnormally important this year due to the free transfer....kids don't have to sit out AND there is higher quality available.

 

Besides Shelton and Thomas, Latrell Bankston (Iowa St) Quay Mays (West Virginia), Keith Moore (Eastern Washington), Netori Johnson (Georgia), Nyles Pinckney and Jordan Williams both from Clemson and Judge Culpepper (Penn St) are DTs to keep an eye on.
