That's significant because the first domino is always the hardest. I expect others to follow suit now...

Their first peak was much later than Western European countries, that's why I said a little while ago that we need to wait before we can say for certain that they won't have a second peak like the other European countries.

France, who has the #1 healthcare system in the world, according to the WHO, saw a 2.1 percent increase of new cases today alone. The rate of increase from day to day in the U.S. is about 0.6 percent currently. Even Germany's total today was a 0.9 percent increase in total cases. In the UK, it's a disaster. They are seeing 2.5 percent increases to new cases daily.

Anybody want to take a wild guess why we're not hearing about this in the media? I'm seeing gloom and doom stories daily about Covid cases here, but as a percentage, our spread is far less right now than these countries that supposedly had beaten Covid like France and Germany. They are getting rocked right now. Trump needs to step up and make sure our Euro allies are following White House protocols. Though, admittedly, when our allies see Mr. Trump not wearing a mask, what kind of message does that send to the common every day Frenchman?

    Of course, you don't.

You'd have to admit that many posters here, along with left-wing politicians and pundits, lauded Europe's handling of the virus way too soon. You'd have to admit that the world's best healthcare system is struggling worse than Trump's America at containing the spread. You'd have to admit the news media drowns us with constant negativity about the Covid situation here, but nary a peep when Europe goes off the rails. You'd have to admit that maybe, just maybe, this virus is bigger than the presidency of the United States and that constitutionally, he/she is only allowed to do so much. The UK and France are the closest comparables to the U.S. in terms of individual freedoms, role of government, aggregate wealth. You'd have to admit all that and I can see why you wouldn't want to.

You'd have to admit that "hurr hurr, Trump should have taken it seriously earlier and we would be playing football games with 100% crowd capacity" was a fairy tale. France had 350 new cases reported on July 20th. Today, France had 26,896 new cases reported. Best healthcare system in the world. 7600% increase in spread. Had months of advance notice on how to combat it.

This is nonsense. Europe has had far fewer cases and deaths per capita than the US has. Yes, cases are now rising in Europe, but they're rising in the US too.

or I could say that all of Europe combined still has less fatalities than us both daily now and in total per capita, and it isn’t close. And that there isn’t a single large country in Europe with a higher death per capita rate than the US, outside of Belgium and Spain, who both took their licks before we did and before there were any protocols. And that this is their second wave and we are entering our third, despite us being a month or two behind them in the initial wave with time to prepare at their expense, which we have clearly squandered while being told we would go from 15 cases to zero. Or that if the media was truly trying to scare people about the virus, it would be in their interest to hype Europe’s problems, just like they did the first time around.

the difference now is that we don’t need to show Europe to know how bad it is, and we don’t need Boris Johnson as a cautionary tale when we have our own, almost action by action.

But like you said, people see what they want to see.

But that would be foolish for you to say, because this clearly isn't over. That would be like the Nazis claiming victory a few weeks after they invaded the Soviet Union. (which ironically, they did just that) If the virus continues to spread there at those clips, it won't take long for them to overtake the U.S. in per capita death. The UK is almost there as it is. Italy and France are not far behind. And France, in particular, are supposed to have the best healthcare in the world. 26,000+ new cases today alone. Spain is actually doing worse already in per capita death. And I'm sorry, but I don't care about the stats in Slovakia. Western European countries which have cultures, freedoms and wealth similar to ours, is the point of the thread.

Lol. We will see where we all are at the end of this. By your own admission it’s essentially the middle innings of a nine inning game.
But again, if you are trying to say that Europe is worse off to this point, that is demonstrably false. If you are trying to say they will be or that we will all end up the same, then you are speculating. Either way, the original post still isn’t logical, it’s wishful thinking, with the added irony of calling me out for exactly what you did in your original post.
And you have underestimated this from day one, from comparing it to the flu, to claiming it wouldn’t pass H1N1 in deaths, to claiming reopening wouldn’t lead to spikes, now this. And at every step we have told you to wait for facts and listen to scientists. But yet, here we are again.
And FYI, many of Europe’s problems are due to their August vacation month, which many countries opened their borders for. They could have done more, which hurts your argument more than helps it. If they commit the same mistakes we made and all end up together, it doesn’t mean it was all inevitable, it means collectively we didn’t have the will to do what was needed.
That isn’t a win or proof it was inevitable, it was just bad management.
