Probably depends on the make up of the population. There are theories that the Asian/Pacific nations haven't been hit hard because they are naturally more immune to certain coronaviruses. Fact is Sweden hasn't had a tick back up like most the rest of Europe has. Now the exact reason might not be known for a while or maybe never truly known but a lot of Europe is having outbursts while Sweden isn't.
Funny, but at least I know where my knowledge ends. Many on here could use a little bit of "read more, post less" in their lives. Like I don't see many of the "we have zero chance to play football this fall" posters saying they were wrong. But it's to be expected. Coronabro's gotta stay woke I guess.
So if it has to do with ethnicity differences, then we should primarily compare them to Norway, Finland, and Denmark rather than the rest of Europe? Finland has had 18 deaths since the beginning of June.
So when you say "they" to discuss Asian countries being "naturally immune," you aren't discussing ethnicity but rather something else? What specifically are you discussing then? Why are you saying that Asian nations are possibly "naturally immune" if it doesn't have to do with ethnicity?
Correct. They are exposed to "wet markets" and might have more exposure to coronaviruses than other areas.
Any evidence to back that or is it just throwing out things? Plenty of places outside of Asia have "wet markets." Regardless, if it is some sort of cultural "immunity," wouldn't it then make more sense to compare it to its closest cultural matches, which, for Sweden, would be other Scandanavian countries?
It's a theory that Just a theory I've read online. Will need proper research and investigation but it's not because everyone wears masks everywhere and shut down.
Federal Judge Rules Gov. Tom Wolf, Dr. Rachel Levine's Shutdown Orders Unconstitutional I figured there would be people challenging shut downs. Surprised it took this long.
Yeah, gummibear737 on Twitter is not likely a person I would utilize as a source for repeating speculation, which is not a scientific "theory." Masking and shut downs have been studied by actual scientists, who have produced peer-reviewed science, and have found effects controlling for many factors. Gummibear737 is not a credible source of information.
Even if you don't believe China's numbers, you telling me all these countries have been wearing masks and socially distancing from the beginning? Come on, I "think" you're smarter than that. At least I hope so if you went to UF.
Yes, they have. Australia quarantined and have engaged in a massive testing regime to limit the initial spread. Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, and South Korea had extremely fast mask adoption. http://www.healthdata.org/sites/default/files/files/Projects/COVID/Mask_use_infographic_2020-1.pdf Now there are two factors here: existing infection rate, which pushes up mask wearing behavior due to increased risk, and mask wearing culture, which is independent. As such, Asia stands out even more because many of these areas weren't hit with high infection rates and still had high mask wearing to prevent infection.
No, it's not anything any of these places did. It's just a mystery -- genetics or exposure to wet markets or something.
Wait, the US tests 2nd most per 1k people in the world. New Zealand does well also but a vast majority of those countries don't test hardly at all. Sort of like what you accuse Trump of. If no one tests I guess they don't have it... You do realize that masks were mandatory in France and Spain but their cases are exploding. But keep thinking every country in Southeast Asia did a great job and it wasn't anything other than that...
That is factually inaccurate. We are 20th in per capita tests, including behind Hong Kong, who you specifically mentioned. Coronavirus Update (Live): 29,365,150 Cases and 931,032 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Pandemic - Worldometer Testing needed to control the virus is a function of the community infection rate. If you keep the rate of infection low, you don't need to test as many to get it under control. Early testing is much more important than late testing if your goal is to limit the damage of the virus (which isn't to say late testing isn't important, just to underline how important early testing is).
Sorry, 2nd most for any country that isn't small. Not counting some of these small countries for obvious reasons.
LOL, are you seriously counting the Cayman Islands and the Falkland Islands and the Channel Islands? And where did I specifically mention Hong Kong and testing? Oh that's right I didn't. Sorry the US is around 8th in testing per million people. My bad on that one.
