Here is the anxiously awaited morning update from world o meter as of 8 am EDT. There were an amazing 27 states that had a decrease in active cases. The total number of active cases increased however. There were 9 states with 1-2 deaths and 5 states with 0 deaths.
There was a 1/1000 % uptick in the death rate per reported case ending an almost 3 month decrease in this stat.
Read the whole article. It only used gaiters made from one material. Fleece is not even the most common material that I see people wearing. Also, it says the droplets stay airborne longer, but it does not say how long. If the mask forces the droplet to travel 4 feet instead of 6 but keeps it airborne 2 seconds longer, is that really a problem? No data was given. The media took a study meant for one thing and turned it into another. The article takes it apart pretty good.
Thanks for the statistical breakdown everyone - Yoda ! Still at around 40,000 per day and the US is averaging 1,000 deaths. Do the math 1,000 a day. That will put us at 300,000+ by years end. In a week or so we will see how the Covid - 19 Convention works out in Sturgis. How many will be laying in a bed soon regretting that decision? And of course the massive "Back to School" initiative, combined with cold and flu will be statistically very interesting and possibly very frighting. Ain't gonna be no vaccine relief either, will be useless if anti vaxer's and the Republican base refuse to take it. Covid ain't going anywhere.
When you say "covid vaxxers", do you mean all the people that are not ignorant, conspiracy embracing nutjobs?
No sir, we always need frightened guinea pigs...errrrr concerned citizens to step up to the front and take the most rushed vaccine in the history of vaccines.
I think one can be concerned about a rushed vaccine and not be considered a nutjob. Our FDA has a pretty lousy track record. (Monsanto for instance). Just look at the garbage they allow in our food that Europe has long banned. The FDA has some pretty big issues and has earned some skepticism. I hope the vaccine come quickly...and safely...but concern will be warranted.
Pretty much. This idea that not trusting the FDA makes you nuts is ignorant. The FDA is making decisions based on kickbacks, not public health. Anyone thinking they wont cave to big pharma here is the one that is nuts.
FDA has a fine track record for vaccines. Here's an article detailing concerns and resolutions of vaccines for the last 65 years. Note that some of these concerns turned out to be unjustified. Considering the many lives saved and diseases averted, I think the process works. Historical Vaccine Safety Concerns Concerns | Vaccine Safety | CDC Also, the FDA has not waived any of significant regulatory standards for vaccine approval. They have stated that "may be given to the FDA’s Accelerated Approval pathway for vaccine licensure" if the situation is warranted (see article). That is not to say that whatever vaccines eventually get licensed will be via that path. Time will tell. “We recognize the urgent need to develop a safe and effective vaccine to prevent COVID-19 and continue to work collaboratively with industry, researchers, as well as federal, domestic, and international partners to accelerate these efforts. While the FDA is committed to expediting this work, we will not cut corners in our decisions and are making clear through this guidance what data should be submitted to meet our regulatory standards. This is particularly important, as we know that some people are skeptical of vaccine development efforts,” said FDA Commissioner Stephen M. Hahn, M.D. “We have not lost sight of our responsibility to the American people to maintain our regulatory independence and ensure our decisions related to all medical products, including COVID-19 vaccines, are based on science and the available data. This is a commitment that the American public can have confidence in and one that I will continue to uphold.” Emphasis is mine because of the knee jerk distrust of our peers. Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update: FDA Takes Action to Help Facilitate Timely Development of Safe, Effective COVID-19 Vaccines I think any premature, suspicion-based shade thrown on the massive vaccine endeavor damages our community. When a vaccine comes to market, I will evaluate its development and listen to doctors prior accepting it. Until that time, I will not undermine the efforts of scientists and researchers working to save lives nor the potential benefit of their resulting product by casting "elephant man" dispersions. Because I care.
This is a rushed vaccine, but the actual trial and testing phases have not been significantly cut. What has been cut is the time it took to create testable vaccines. This is in large part due to the fact we now have the ability to have a complete DNA genome of a new virus in the matter of days. 50 years ago, we had no ability to gene sequence. 25 years ago, this process would have taken weeks, if not months. What this means is from day zero of the virus being detected to day 1 of phase 1 testing is significantly shorter than in the past. Knowing the gene sequence means microbiologists know precisely how to attack the virus, and it speeds up the process significantly.
We all care, and I hope it comes quickly, but to think the FDA wont cave to dollars is ignorant. They do it all the time. The FDA is a joke to other such organizations around the world. They literally hired a Monsanto guy to run the FDA for God's sake. I did see Dr Fauci say that the speed of the vaccine is more financially based then procedurally based, which I thought was encouraging. He basically said vaccines take so long due to funding, but that obstacle has been removed in this effort. That sounds hopeful, but man calling out skepticism in our FDA is the sound of not knowing the history of our FDA.
I provided you the historical concerns on vaccine approvals. I find the vague support for your personal distrust of the FDA unpersuasive. I trust that the FDA and its international peers will make an informed decision when approving and distributing a vaccine to billions of earthlings. That's the best that one can hope for.
We assumed they would keep poison out of our food too...Then the hired a guy from the food poisoning company to run the FDA. And again, their international peers are miles ahead. This is not political, in fact I tend to hold the more liberal perspective IRT the FDA.
Food regulations are different than vaccine regulations. Tell me, how many people in the last 25 years have been affected in the US due to vaccines with improper FDA approval? Also, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the FDA are working together on COVID-19 vaccine guidelines. They are sister agencies that overwhelmingly align on over 90% overall commercial approvals and, to my knowledge, haven't disagreed on vaccines. So who are these international peers that are miles ahead? China? Russia? Show some non-anecdotal support for your international peers assertion. I'm listening.
I was referring to food regulations. I was clear about that. But we also already know the FDA can be bought. I am not against the speedy vaccine. I am against you ripping other folks who may be skeptical.
