In case there was any doubt about asym spread here is more confirmation Even Asymptomatic People Carry the Coronavirus in High Amounts A new study in South Korea, published Thursday in JAMA Internal Medicine, offers more definitive proof that people without symptoms carry just as much virus in their nose, throat and lungs as those with symptoms, and for almost as long. “It’s important data, that’s for sure,” said Benjamin Cowling, an epidemiologist at the University of Hong Kong who was not involved in the work. “And it does confirm what we’ve suspected for a long time — that asymptomatic cases can transmit infection.” …………………..…………. Still, experts said the results strongly suggest that asymptomatic people are unwitting broadcasters of the virus. “They don’t look any different from the symptomatic population” in terms of how much virus they carry, said Marta Gaglia, a virologist at Tufts University in Massachusetts who was not involved in the work. “There’s no actual reason to believe a priori that they would transmit any differently.”
Matanuska Glacier. About 60 miles outside of Anchorage on the way to Valdez. Ice changes constantly with water flow channels opening and closing and areas flooding and then going dry. We always go with a guide just to be safe. Crampons and helmets are mandatory once you get to the ice Had hoped to walk this channel and get some pictures but it filled up and had 4 feet of water in it. Pictures a friend took the week before from inside the channel were really great. those ice walls on the left are around 20' from water to top of ice
Cheap rapid testing.....catch these people and get them isolated until they are no longer infectious....
Updated stats from world o meter as of 8 am EDT. There were 12 states with a decrease in active cases. I will say that NY and NJ have been consistently dropping their number of active cases the last two weeks. There were 8 states with 1-2 deaths and 9 states with 0 deaths. My daughter is home this weekend so I will not update the stats over the weekend and will be back Monday.
Yep good move by Cooper, but he needs to open gyms with restrictions. 5 months without any gyms is not healthy for the state. It is stupid to allow fast food chains to open for dine in, but not health facilities. Social distance the equipment. Require masks. Do Temp checks etc. but open gyms.
No question we have failed. I just find it hard to believe that an entire Provence in the western world is basically virus free. I get both Taiwan and NS are Islands too and that has to help, but man I find that stat hard to believe.
I disagree on gyms, but no one says I would have to go back. The Gold's outbreak in California where over 80 people became infected shows whatever measures they had taken did not work. I hate seeing the business owners and their employees lose their jobs, businesses, etc on the other hand.....not sure what the right move is there. Maybe a test run and force people to wear the masks 100% of the time while inside the gyms and see if one or two can go a period of time without a major event? But, we cannot even get people to wear masks on jets where you are trapped inside a tube, you simply cannot trust people to not be selfish a-holes.
My gym that I work out of has been open for more than 2 months. We haven't had any issues. We ask for everyone to wipe down equipment and distance when possible. Masks are not required. I wear one with my older clients but not with anyone else unless requested.
The issue is the way the mask order is executed. As you know, Gov. Cooper did not allow for people to be cited for no mask, so the order is pretty weak. ENFORCE the order. Allow businesses to demand a medical form for exemptions. But instead he offered no real enforcement options and thus businesses are forced to either violate the order entirely or refuse service to those with health issues. We chose 100% enforcement which unfortunately alienates the very small minority with real health issues. I agree it is no easy solution, but I think you require limited capacity. One way flow in aisles. Masks 100% at all times and scheduled blocks for members so that they are always around the same reduced group of people. I mean BoJangle's and McD's are allowed to have people standing in line inside ruining peoples health. Close them and open the gyms.
Able to clarify what “it” is yet? Surely someone as pretentious and condescending as yourself must be able to come up with the words.
While I am not a gym guy, I would think opening them could be an option if they were serious about safety. My wife's pilates gym is back open but she is going to hold off until our community numbers get a little better. The upside is that she is doing more trail running with me now, but she does miss her ladies.
people are generally not breathing heavily at fast food restaurants. Do you believe that people will wear masks while working out and that gym owners will enforce it? I miss the gym too but there are a lot of outdoor activities or him exercises that can take the place in the interim, especially during the spring, summer, and fall. One upside is that by breaking the gym routine that I had fallen into and incorporating different things I have dropped 10 pounds. perhaps require a rapid spit test to enter in lieu of closures. all tests must be logged and saved, gyms pay for additional inspectors to verify compliance.
Yeah, I have definitely benefited from being creative in how I work out, but the equipment variety at my gym is something I miss. My wife's gym is also open (some here are using a weird loophole), but like your wife, she is not going back yet either.
My wife's pilates class moved outside under a tent. We have done a lot more beach walking too. The soft sand walking (up out of tidal limit) has helped with my knees, surprised how much it worked my lower back too.
I have dropped about the same. I attribute it to all the working on our house that I did outside while home for 7 weeks. I do think that the problem is enforcement. Gov. Cooper has given no recourse for enforcement so businesses have not all buckled down.
Hey Tilly, Been working out hard too........... Living room couch to the frig, get a cold one, back and forth, gets exhausting! Then I have to do the same with the pizza slices. Hard work Bro!
You have to vary the routine to keep the muscles guessing. I would grab a whiskey every now and then.
