    From your link:

So where is the community infection rate low in the US? Where do we have a functional system to identify and isolate cases and close contacts?

If an area meets CDC Phase II Guidelines, then schools can open safely. If an area doesn't even meet Phase I Guidelines, which unfortunately, much of the country does not, opening schools will only increase community spread.

And it's not like school will be getting back to "normal". Masks need to be warned, and classes no interact with one-another. Because as Israel experienced, even if you think the virus is under control, open the school with no restrictions and the virus will spread back up to dangerous levels.

A majority of states in the US. I would do virtual in south Florida until they get their area under control. My county in Florida is opening a week late and that’s good for my family.

Read the data I provided. It’s better for kids to be at school according to Many pediatricians. Why wouldn’t you listen to them?

    And some info on when:
I did some follow up on the French study:
Those numbers sound better until you look at the original study and see that the overall percentage of infection was only 25%.

Really? Based on what metric are a majority of states classified as "low community infection rates?"

This. Kids get colds. Colds are Coronaviruses. This is a Coronavirus. Kids have been out of school. Camps have been minimized or shit down. Kids aren’t immune to this virus. Schools will be their usual breeding grounds of illness.

Because if you actually listen to the Pediatricians, they say only reopen in areas where the number of cases are low.

Well, let me just ask about that — the level of virus in the state of Florida — we saw 7,000 new cases in a single day this week. I mean, would you encourage schools to open today if that decision had to be made based on the numbers you're seeing?

The way the numbers are looking in Florida right now are concerning. The level of the virus is really high. And so a statewide mandate to reopen [schools] without consideration of community spread really goes against our recommendations.[emphasis added]
The other link you had contained a lot of things I agreed with, and didn't say reopen all schools like nothing happened. It said we need to close the digital divide with poor kids, which I agree with, and look at "pod" classes with 10 kids or less. Again, something that is likely to not spread the virus at a rate of keeping schools all open.

Stopping community spread is something we should all be invested in. Even if kids under 10 spread the virus at only 1/2 the rate as adults, that means a classroom with 22 kids and one teacher is the equivalent of 12 adults. No classroom, should there be in-person learning, should have more than 10 total people to help reduce the spread in places where the number of cases are still high.

We all want to get back to normal. We can't do that if the virus is spreading like it has the last few months. Reopening schools is a huge risk that will likely lead to more, large community spread, and prolong our current state. Better to be patient and look for other, short-term options.

Some more highlights from the follow up study. (https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.06.25.20140178v2.full.pdf)

Table 2 also shows the infection rate for 12-17 as 15%, as compared to 11.4% for 18-44 and 10.6% for 45-64. The good news is that kids under 12 are much less likely to get infected. 9.2% for 10-11, 9.8% for 8-9, and only 6.2% for <8.

Did you even read that article? It refers to the Israel model. Which we now know didn’t work. There you have it. A country where empirical experience shows that opening schools caused the second wave. And we have a rampaging pandemic here. So, that experience undermines your dated information.

The beauty of the our country is everyone has their own freedoms. If my kids school will be open(it will be as of now) my kids will be attending in person. Anyone else can choose to have their kid learn virtually. Whatever makes you feel safe. My children will get a better education and have social interaction which will help them later in life. We aren’t waiting for there to be a vaccine which could be 6-24 months out. But if you want to stay home, go ahead, that is your right.

No, it’s one of many countries. It’s more an outlier than anything.

The virus is the virus. It couldn’t care less if a kid is Israeli, American, German. Try again.
