“Feet wet” and a solid effort.... Watch out for our man Brady—Long life/Stay healthy/Best of Luck! We are for ALL OUR GATORS to do well at the next level!
I know I have already mentioned it but DOD doesn’t get enough credit as a Gator MLBer. He won’t make the Hall. He isn’t sexy as a closer or starter. But the guy has been in the Show for ages now and has been damn good.
Pete Alonso is off to a rough start. Still the one single from yesterday. Batting sub .100 (1-11 I think) through 3 games. Hopefully he picks it up sooner rather than later. People may not fully comprehend that the season is 5% over already...
Yep—from what I’ve seen he’s going to have to prove to his opposition that he can hit the slider oppo.......
Our friend @GatorLurker will no doubt appreciate this: Alonso went deep with a 2-run shot tonight. In the words of The Hawk, “You can put it on the board... Yes!”
ESPN tweeted the video of the ball hitting some of the cardboard 'fans' in the stands above the green monster:
Gators in the MLB: Opening Day Alligator Sports River Wells, Sports Writer With the season continuing on, UF is well represented. And while many are veterans who have seen their fair share of MLB action, some Gators are making their first appearance in the bigs. One of the more notable rookies is former Florida pitcher Brady Singer, who made his debut with the Kansas City Royals on Saturday. Singer, the former First Team All-American and winner of the Dick Howser Trophy (given annually to college baseball’s best player), pitched five innings and gave up three hits and two earned runs. He struck out seven, however, and finds himself in the major leagues after just one season in the minors. New York Mets First baseman Pete Alonso, last year’s Home Run Derby Champion and NL Rookie of the Year, has struggled so far. In his 11 at-bats since the beginning of the season, he’s only managed one hit and has struck out five times. He’s only played in three games, but Alonso will certainly look to improve his .091 batting average as the season progresses. Veterans who were former Gators made their mark on the league as well. St. Louis Cardinals center fielder Harrison Bader, who left Florida in 2014, has yet to get a hit in five at-bats but has scored two runs and stolen a base. Darren O’Day pitched an inning in his Braves debut where he struck out two batters. Former UF pitcher Shaun Anderson, who made his MLB debut last year with the San Francisco Giants, has pitched two innings and struck out five batters. Two Florida players who were set to play this season suffered injuries that will keep them sidelined. Baltimore Orioles shortstop Richie Martin, who batted .208 last year, had surgery on his wrist that will sideline him for the 2020 season. Oakland A’s pitcher A.J Puk will likely see action this year, but he was placed on the Injured List with shoulder inflammation, and his 2020 debut is likely to be far off, according to A’s manager Bob Melvin. Washington Post Players’ reluctance to go to Miami in wake of Marlins’ outbreak may be new vulnerability for MLB As the league tries to ride out a chaotic opening week, the biggest issue going forward might best be defined not as a Marlins problem, but a Miami one.
^^Seems misguided since Marlins didn't get infected in Miami per the below article. Could happen anywhere if u ignore social distancing, masks, etc. //www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/phillies/miami-marlins-players-went-out-atlanta-covid-19-outbreak-mlb-report
Brady got tagged a bit last night. 5IP, 4ER and took the loss. Not terrible but obviously not what you want. He leads the team with his 18 Ks. He is averaging over 10K/9IP with an ERA of 4.80 in his 3 starts.
Had a former Gator vs former Gator a second ago. Justin Shafer got Pete Alonso to fly out on a 3-1 pitch. Pete is 1-2 on the night but the hit was not against Shafer.
