Such compassion for the families of the 130,000 dead and growing. Even more to the ones who survived but face life-long health issues as a result of contracting COVID-19. If this is truly the psyche of the country, that's sad. This is the same country that sacrificed to win WW II, and came together after the 9/11 attacks. Now we're reduced to I won't die, so who cares if hundreds of thousands do, as long as I can go out without a mask and party...Merica!!!!!
Our freedom? Maybe not go to a bar for a few months, and make sure you where a mask. Oh, the oppressiveness of tyranny!!!
Or maybe not have hundreds of thousands walking hand in hand for days to protest something that rarely happens.
This is complete nonsense. There is very little evidence that the protests led to increased cases. Many places where the protests were the largest did not see a spike in cases. And saying the protests 'probably killed more AA's from viral spread than the actual number of AA's killed in the past year by white cops' is maybe a new low for you. You just said you had a 0.0001% chance of dying from covid. Now you're saying the protests killed more blacks from covid than have been killed by police. As for the protests and masks, your reasoning is ridiculous there too. There were tens of thousands of protesters in various places. You think the police should have written citations for every person who wasn't wearing a mask? That wouldn't have even been possible. And I think the police had better things to do. You are just trying to blame the right's idiocy on masks on the protests.
This is what you guys do continuously.. straw man arguments. Never said a word about cops issuing citations. What I said is that we heard N-O-T-H-I-N-G about the protests from government leaders. Protests that, in many cases, were in defiance of their orders on large gatherings. But if you go to church, we're going to hunt you down. If you don't see the disparity there, then there's no point in continuing.
Overheard a conversation about Wal-Mart requiring face masks. Two guys were talking and they said their business would probably go down as people would quit shopping there. I told them I knew several who said they would go there now that everyone would be wearing a mask. They were like shocked that people were avoiding it because they weren't wearing masks.
Well you talked about the protests and masks. You blamed the right's stupidity on masks on the protests. What am I missing there? So now you think the reason dumbasses won't wear masks is because the protests weren't shut down by state and local leaders. If that's actually the case, then the dumbasses are even dumber than I thought they were. As for large gatherings, there was no stopping the protests short of police and military intervention that would have lead to lots of violence and the loss of lives. I suppose that's what you wanted. Fortunately, governors and mayors felt differently.
all these ordinances about limiting the number of people in gatherings are just so much useless paper, nothing is going to be done, because if police try to break them up, most likely violence will break out, and of course the pol.ice will get blamed.local governments are powerless to enforce, so why have them?
Wait, I thought when people were protesting going to church they were risking spreading to other people. Those protests were outside. Now when literally millions of people are spending hours hand to hand many of whom aren't wearing masks there is no risk? So which is it? And yes, I'll hazard a guess that the protests definitely lead to some dying from Covid-19, most likely more than the small amount of unarmed black men that were killed last year by LEO.
So reasonable, responsible, and caring citizens have guidelines to follow so they don't contribute to killing their fellow humans?
if they were reasonable, responsible, and caring they would obey the no more than 50 individual ordinance, thus negating the need for police intervention.
I actually still haven't been in any retail store, including grocery, since March. I already did like 90% online anyway, sometimes I'd still go to a store just to check things out and then buy things online. Obviously I don't do that at all now. Now I do 100% online, including whatever groceries or other supplies I need - which I'd never even thought of doing until the pandemic. It actually isn't so bad to have someone else do the grocery shopping! Even the mask policy probably won't get me to go. It was getting to the point where I didn't think it would be a big deal to venture into a Publix, especially in the A.M when it isn't crowded. But with the cases surging hells to the naw, wouldn't set foot in a Wal-Mart or Publix regardless of masks until this settles back down. Especially during the day or any time it's semi busy. Fortunately my Whole Foods added us to the delivery area, so now that delivery is our main source of groceries. I didn't like using Publix because they only used Instacart for deliveries. Whole Foods I believe uses their own drivers (or at least it isn't a whacked system like Instacart, with Prime delivery you can shop right on Amazon). Wal-mart also has a pretty good system. Publix lost 100% my business because they rely on Instacart.
I'm having a hard time trying to decipher what you are saying here. If it's that I am somehow being hypocritical about outdoor gatherings, maybe you can find one single post where I was critical of people being in groups outdoors. I don't recall ever being critical of outdoor gatherings. Early on, there was some debate about beaches being open. Less was known about how the virus transmits then. The consensus now is that it is much harder to transmit the virus outside than it is inside. That said, I did agree at the time that the protests would probably lead to some additional cases. But the evidence for any large scale transmission from the protests is pretty slim now. Many cities that had big protests did not see spikes in the weeks after.
I'm sure some people got the virus directly, or indirectly, as a result of protesting. But regardless, the majority of protestors were wearing masks... including the criminal agitators. The ratio of those not wearing masks was pretty small, so that probably minimized the spread a bit... even if the protests themselves were antithetical to the pandemic. I'm not sure how the protests are exactly related to the idea of NOT wearing masks, when the vast majority of protesters that I saw were - in fact - wearing masks. I remember watching the protests and pointing out those individuals who weren't wearing masks, or joking "there goes the social distancing".
People that aren't complete dick noses will actually obey them without requiring enforcement. And the more people that adhere to the guidelines, the more it MITIGATES the spread.
