I'm sorry that you feel that way. I am proud to be an American.

    Why?

I am proud to be an American but ashamed of where we are at this moment. Our president has mocked other countries for their handling of the virus and now we account for one fourth of the infections on the entire planet.

That's not how it works. If R0 is 0.99, then cases will decrease, eventually reaching 0. If R0 is 1.01, then cases will increase, eventually limited only by the size of the population. When you divide an increasing number by a number that's approaching 0, the ratio trends toward infinity.

In other words, even a tiny difference in "cautiousness" can result in a very large difference in daily cases when given enough time.

If you believe in American Exceptionalism, then shouldn't we also be the first to admit when we fork up... 'cause this is undoubtedly a giant fork up.

Seems incredible to me that he still doesn't understand even the most fundamental characteristics of this virus... hell, ANY virus.

Listening to his interviews, he sounds like a 3rd grader trying to explain infectious disease; except, unlike the 3rd grader, he literally gets all the facts and conclusions wrong. You think he can't possibly be this stoopid; but he routinely doubles down on stupid... he's like a child that won't quit reaching for the cherry-red stove eye.

"The US sets a world record for the number of new Covid-19 cases reported in a single day: 63,247. It's not the only place seeing surges. Records are being smashed in hotspots scattered across the globe, from India to Mexico, and Tokyo, Japan, to Victoria, Australia."

What you need to know about coronavirus on Friday, July 10
By Eliza Mackintosh, CNN 35 mins ago

    Friday, July 10

The world's lack of solidarity and leadership, not the coronavirus, is the biggest threat humanity faces. That was the message from the World Health Organization's director-general, who made an emotional plea Thursday for international unity to fight the pandemic, blasting a lack of global leadership after President Donald Trump announced his intention to pull the United States from the organization.

"How difficult is it for humans to unite to fight a common enemy that's killing people indiscriminately?" Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus asked, tears in his eyes. "Can't we understand that the divisions or the cracks between us actually are to the advantage of the virus?"

Dr. Anthony Fauci says extreme partisanship has made it harder for US to respond to coronavirus
    Jeanine Santucci
    USA TODAY

WASHINGTON – Top U.S. infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Thursday that divisiveness in politics has likely hurt the country's response to the coronavirus.

"I mean, you have to be having blindfolders on and covering your ears to think that we don't live in a very divisive society now from a political standpoint. I mean, it's just unfortunate, but it is what it is," Fauci said in an interview with FiveThirtyEight's "PODCAST-19" released Thursday.

Here are the updated stats from World o meter as of 8 am EDT. There were 8 states with a decrease in active cases, lead by NY and NJ. There were 8 states with just 1-2 deaths and 7 states with 0 deaths.

The death rate per reported case continues to drop. I think this is caused by increases in testing which identifies more cases and improvements in treatments.

It couldn’t be that they didn’t reopen Before the curve was driven down to a low baseline of cases, could it? Your opinion has no support. It couldn’t be more prevalent mask wearing? Nah. It has to be the wise GOP strategy of letting the virus run rampant through states as a matter of course.

Take away NYC and NJ deaths (thx to their dumb ass governor’s policy on nursing homes), then the US is doing very well on fatalities.

it’s a damn virus. You don’t stop the spread of a virus. We never have before and we never will. Its almost as if people forget that we all get sick every year.

That is only because we have tested 8 times more people than most other developed countries. But it doesn't matter to me. At the end of the day, I'm still glad I don't live in France or Spain. Who, even though they seem to have stopped massive spread, still manage to lead us in deaths per capita. Astonishing isn't it, for the world's best health system according to the WHO? (France)

We may not do everything right, but in the end, I'm glad I'm here and it's funny, I've yet to be nervous or feel any sort of panic about Covid-19. Not going to get all worked up about something that is of very low to no risk to me and my immediate family.

And let us not forget the cavalier approach De Blasio took in March when NYC was about to get straight up wrecked. Imagine if he had taken the threat seriously.

Yep. There was a damn impeachment underway when this thing started spreading here. Probably blame to go around on both sides, but Trump wasn't busy trying to boot De Blasio out of office in March when De Blasio said the following statements:

“For the vast majority of New Yorkers, life is going on pretty normally right now,” Bill de Blasio said on Morning Joe March 10, as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. topped 1,000. “We want to encourage that.” He added that there was a “misperception” that the disease “hangs in the air waiting to catch you. No, it takes direct person-to-person contact.”

Listen, I'm not fan of the inept leadership in NY, but it's like your go to deflection. Give it a rest.

At least blaming the impeachment for Trumps crappy response to the virus is a new deflection. Run with that for a while.

Yeah, but to stop or slow it down requires a belief in science and that doesn't fly with some of the flat-earthers around here.

Trump was getting intelligence briefings on the dangers of this pandemic from both health and economic perspectives. And he decided to bald face lie to the American public about it for months, and delay any kind of coordinate response... which of course was made more difficult by the fact that he had disbanded the pandemic task force established in the Obama administration... because Obama.

No doubt De Blasio (and others) could have done better, but where was he getting his info from? Does he get those briefings? Or like other state and local leaders, is he relying on CDC and White House leadership and guidance?

Why would I whitewash history and "give it a rest"? It was the single deadliest, localized outbreak of the virus in the world and the mayor of the city, who actually wields way more power over the city than Trump, was running around as the outbreak was occurring telling everyone to go to bars and live your normal lives. When is the last time Trump suggested going to a bar? DeSantis? But this is what the mayor of NYC was doing as tens of thousands of his people were being set up to die. How in the world was that Trump's fault?

The Polio, Tetanus, Rubella, Hep A, Hep B, Mumps, Measles, Chickenpox and Whooping Cough viruses would say your opinion is almost completely wrong. How many friends have you had collectively with those diseases in the aggregate. Very few. Why? The spread of the virus has been largely stopped by vaccinations.

And the basic influenza virus would say that while you may not have stopped me, I'm not a pandemic every year.
