Oh, I see, only poor dumb people are coming here. Nice job of xenophobia there. That is one of the crappiest things I’ve heard about people trying to come to the US. Good work. Trump must love you.
I mean really, what do International students do for us? ICE tells students on visas they must leave US if schools go online-only According to the Commerce Department, international students contributed $45 billion to the U.S. economy in 2018.
As someone who came to UF on an F1 visa, this pisses me off. Most students, specially graduate degree students, don’t come from affluent families and don’t have the means to just pack up and go. I had to take a loan for my first flight here and had to save up for three years on a Teaching Assistant salary to go back home to visit my family.
Seriously though, look at who gets math and science degrees and fill our workforce. Meanwhile dance, wokeness, art...... please excuse the sarcasm I am cranky today.
well if they're in the US to get an education and the classes are now online, why do they need to remain in the US to continue with their education?
Because it's costly to return home, they may not have access to reliable internet, they won't have access to the resources they do here, and they won't be able to see friends/classmates. On what planet does it make sense to send all these people back to another country? All you're doing is incentivizing them to not come back.
They should be allowed to stay here so they can see their friends/classmates? Seriously? What a ridiculous argument
Other reasons- Can’t do lab work or hands on research. Time zone differences would mean kids from Asia Pacific would have to stay awake through the night. Some of the resources (eg zoom, g-suite etc) are banned in many countries. Economic revenues lost for college towns. Can students break their apartment leases because of this - my guess is no. The question to be asked is - why would these students who would otherwise be in good legal standing be asked to go back? Seems like this was the “best” cruel idea for the week from this Administration.
