A mitigating factor with the comparison to shopping would be that many do not shop for 4 hrs. straight.
Not sure if the image will show up, I had to "snip" it, but if you look at the past 7 days the yellow line (the 7 day rolling average is not trending down. Either way, it just strikes me as funny that there cannot be the fabled "one source of truth" for information this important.
The reality is that even with states opening up, in many places people are still choosing to shelter in place, especially those who can work remotely.
We have been open for several weeks now, people are still social distancing, not getting together in large groups and keeping the nursing homes closed to visitors.
it will happen. Might as well wrap your head around it. My prediction is 1/4 stadium capacity is the minimum for when UF starts. Could be as high as 50% if this drops precipitately.
Agreed. The NCAA is trying desperately for a PR strategy that allows play but doesn't make them employees. I do think that it is likely going to be a patchwork season with only some places open but not others, with different season lengths, with some places totally empty and others with a few fans, etc. One big issue I see for sports in general, and baseball is dealing with this now, is that they really need to be able to renegotiate their TV deals, given the absurd ratings that live sports could now generate, but don't seem to be able to do so, resulting in losses for the people running the sports. I can see why Disney doesn't want the precedent, but pro sports can't really operate on full salaries with a set payout and no fans.
It's going to be sad listening to college ADs and presidents twisting themselves into a pretzel trying to explain how football is essential for the well-being of the public.
Very disappointing to see schools reverse course so quickly on this. Just a couple of weeks ago they were still considered students first and wouldn’t be allowed back until everyone was back. That didn’t age well at all. Why aren’t they reopening for summer sessions as of immediately? I actually had some hope that the universities would actually look out for the health, safety, and well being of the students above the non paid athletes making them money. Boy was I naive. It’s pretty foolish to assume that none of these athletes have any conditions like asthma or diabetes. Just because they’re young and in good shape doesn’t make them immune from risk. If I’m Trevor Lawrence or any other high profile, draft eligible player, I’m giving them a big middle finger and sitting this season out. Why take any risk at all? It’s been proven that even those that recover have been left with permanent respiratory damage. I’d be shocked if all of the top level talent actually participated.
Do you ever look at statistics? The odds of a person under 24 of dying from Covid-19 are literally 1 in a million. odds of being struck lightning are higher. This is a non issue for college students. I think if more people knew the data they wouldn’t make outlandish claims.

Millennial Zeitgeist: Attitudes About COVID-19 Shift As Cases Among Young Adults Rise
Of course, the risk is lower for younger people who get this pneumonia. But, of course, then they can become spreaders. And expose other students to the virus. And other players. And refs. Not to mention, of course, higher survivablity with risks of lung or organ damage have to be factored in.
You said the safety of the students. What is the danger? The risk of flu is 5X higher than Covid-19? Should we stop playing for anyone gets the flu? For elderly they are the vast majority of risk. Students have infinitely more risk of dying/going to the hospital from drinking and driving, drugs, suicide, and just about any other random thing than Covid-19. Look at the data before you spew some of these fear tactics.
who are they spreading it to? Students at college have a higher chance of being around like ages people at college. Have the professors/coaches/refs/trainers and whoever else wear masks. Students can go about their business. This is the fear porn that is prevalent today. It sucks because the media is advancing this false narrative also.
I outlined the risks in the post you quoted. You’re the only one bringing death into this particular discussion. Do me a favor, find me a study that shows the effects of an 18 year old Covid survivor 5 years from now, 10 years, and 15 years. I’m sure there are studies all over, ya know, since the virus is 3 months old. You seem to know everything there is to know about it anyways, so enlighten me. Wasn’t there a WR a couple of years ago that found out he had a heart condition when he arrived on campus and our staff checked him out? Good thing he’s the only one out there, yeah, zero risk for the young healthy athletes. Again, I’ll say, if I’m Trevor Lawrence I’ll be damned if I’m risking my lungs before my first nfl paycheck.
I’ll take any bet you want to make that Trevor Lawrence will be out there 1st game this year. Otherwise you are just making stuff up. Good effort at fear porn. Not working for most rational people.
What evidence can you produce for a false narrative? Can the players wear masks during the game, on the sidelines, during practice and medical treatments? Do you think masks are the only protection necessary for those who might be at risk from contracting the virus from an asymptomatic person?
I preface this post with.....I really loathe living in this state: Well, guess we are going to know in a few weeks the results, but this a small race track here in Alamance County, North Carolina opened Saturday Night in defiance of the governor. Track officials defied the governors orders on mass gatherings limited to fewer than 25 people and allowed ~ 4000 to be packed into the small grandstands. I could not care less if this is what those people want, great. I just think that we should document everyone in attendance through facial recognition software and if they get sick they are banned from local hospitals to ensure resources are not wasted on people violating the governors orders. You are free to live as you decide, and you are free to live (or die) with any consequences from your actions when they are in violation of state regulation. On the other hand, the Coke-A-Cola 600 will be run Sunday night in Charlotte, but race organizers and NASCAR are not permitting fans. https://www.journalnow.com/sports/w...cle_c30a395d-376d-585d-b063-d156153a40e9.html
